"Don't touch me," I say.
"Come on. I'm not going to do anything, honey, I just want to talk," he says.
I refuse to look at him again. I keep my gaze on the sidewalk instead.
"I don't want to talk. Thank you," I respond.
He snorts, gripping my arm tighter when I try to pull it away again.
"What's your name?"
I tug at my arm again.
"I said, I don't want to talk," I snap.
He moves closer to me. "And I said-"
I look at him then, infuriated.
"I don't care! Get off me!"
I spit on his face. In his surprise, he lets my arm go. I start to walk away.
"Hey, where do you think you're going?" He demands.
I ignore him.
"Where are you going?" He asks again. His steps quicken behind me.
Out of nowhere, they stop.
"She's going wherever the hell she wants," a familiar voice states.
I whip around. David is standing in front of the boy.
"Excuse me?" The boy asks.
"You heard me."
I blink a few times, shocked.
Why am I still standing here? I should be running. Getting out of here as fast as I can. Slowly, I register that.
As I start to turn around, David looks at me.
"Don't go anywhere yet," he tells me.
I glare at him, but stay where I am. He turns back to the guy I don't know.
"I just wanted to talk to her, man," he says.
David huffs. "And she said no. She has no interest in talking to someone like you."
The guy looks at me, then back at David.
"Really? This is ridiculous."
David laughs. "Yeah, it is. So I'll make it real easy for you. Leave her alone. Go home or something, you creep."
David turns around as the mysterious guy takes off in the opposite direction without another word.
"Are you okay?" He asks me.
I nod. "Fine. Thank you."
"Of course. Now, where is it you're going?"
I sigh, looking at the ground. Though he may very well have just saved me, he still intimidates me.
"I was just heading home. So, I'll be okay. You don't have to-"
"Let me take you," he says.
I look up at him in surprise.
"What?"
He smiles, his bright blue eyes softening.
"I said, let me take you home. You shouldn't be left alone after what just happened. Someone like that..." He trails off.
I hesitate. "I really think I'll be okay."
He shakes his head.
"Please, Aurora? You don't have to be afraid of me or anything. I swear, I'll drop you off at your house unharmed."
Maybe he's right. It would probably be best if I wasn't left to walk back home alone. Besides, it's humid out here and it's nearly a half hour walk.
I can't help but smile. He returns the gesture, making my own widen a little.
"So, what do you say?" He asks.
I sigh. "Yeah, that sounds nice. Thanks."
He grins, gesturing to the sidewalk in front of us.
"Right this way."
