deja's pov (sorry ive been doing deja sm)

this morning i woke up by far the happiest i had in the past couple months. it was one of my favorite days of the year, christmas eve. i rolled over and checked my phone.

i walked downstairs and saw my mom and mar at the table with breakfast. i sat down and started eating breakfast. my mom asked how i slept. "mami, the best i've slept in a long time." she laughed, "deja you seem very very happy, what happened you haven't acted like this in months." i smiled, "what can i say? finally things are going how i want them to." i was doing everything i needed to do. i hadn't texted mattia since the other night and i've felt great. me and alejandro have been so happy and i haven't even thought about texting mattia. i was so happy with the way things were going.

the holidays are my favorite, it's kind of hard since my dad passed a couple years ago but we always try to have a good time. i really really wish he was here though. i miss him everyday. he never got to watch me at my quinceañera, see how excited i was when i passed my permit and road test, and he never got to see me and alejandro get together. he always loved ale when we were little. he would always say that "i was going to grow up and marry the little alex boy down the street." i thought it was so gross when i was little but now that's among my main goals in life, be successful and start a family with the little alex boy from down the street. funny how that works. i'm just glad i'm doing something right that would make my father proud. i got up from the table and walked over to the tree. i looked through the branches until i found the ornament i wanted. a little angel that said "rip papí 1975-2015" i gave it a little kiss and then let it fall back into the tree.

my mom and mariana saw what i was doing and walked over and we all held eachother tight for awhile in silence. my mom finally spoke, "i love you two more than words can explain. your father would be so proud of everything you do. mariana, you're doing so well at NYU. and deja you're not far behind. i'm sure next year you'll get accepted into an amazing school too. thank you for making the alvarez family look good." mariana and i both said our thank you's and went our separate ways. i went upstairs to shower (snapped a quick pic to alejandro hehe) and hopped in. my phone buzzed, i reached out of the door and saw my favorite notification.
