deja's pov

ella's mom was coming in about 10 minutes to pick me up so i had to get my bag together. i already had on leggings, a cami, and a cardigan. usually i'd just put on pajamas but just in case anyone wanted to take pictures i threw on a decent outfit. i put my backpack on and went downstairs to wait for my aunt and ella on the couch.

i saw out the window that titi angel was pulling in so i yelled up to my mom that i loved her and i would be home tomorrow around one. i climbed into the backseat of the car and said hi to ella and angel. i caught them up on everything because i hadn't seen either of them in a couple days. i told them how fun the concert was, how my mom had been the past few days, how mariana was coming back in town for spring break at the end of march and how us three were going to LA for that week off, just small talk.

angel nodded, "que bueno deja!! el told me that a girl you don't like is going tonight, how do you think that's going to be." i rolled my eyes, "hopefully it'll be fine. you know how i am, i don't start drama but if she wants to she can. i can't promise i won't say something if she starts it." she laughed and said how i was just like my mom when she was younger. none of us lived very far from each other so soon enough we were pulling into alivia's driveway.

ella and i both thanked her and said i love you while getting out of the car. we went up to the front door and rang the bell. we heard alivia coming down the stairs to open the door for us. the door swung open, "do you guys ALWAYS have to come earlier than everyone?" she laughed. we both walked inside and upstairs to alivia's room. i flopped down on her bed and put on some music for us to bump to before anyone got here. alivia motioned toward her closet door and opened it. ella looked at me with wide eyes after liv revealed a bottle of pink lemonade vodka and a case of white claws.

i was shocked. this was pretty out of character for alivia. she looked proud of herself. i was glad alivia was coming out of her shell more, i was more than proud of her. soon enough, gabi walked in and greeted liv with a kiss and ella and i with a hug. it was still pretty early so i didn't expect the other girls to get here for awhile. this also gave me more time to get acquainted with gabi before the whole group showed up. she told us that her family was very traditionally italian, her dad worked with mattia's dad at his restaurant so they were very close with the polibio family, she is out to her family but sometimes they aren't the most supportive, and so on.

i really liked gabi. more importantly though, alivia was so happy with her. you could just tell. her entire vibe changed the minute she stepped in the door. the whole time gabi was telling us about herself alivia was sitting in the corner beaming. it was great to see her like this after so many years of hiding this secret from all of us.

we heard a knock at the door so alivia went to see who was here. we heard the door open and a sweet bubbly voice greet alivia. chloe was here. she came up the stairs and waved to all of us. alivia introduced chloe to gabi and we all sat and talked for awhile. a couple minutes later it was the same deal but a'maree came up the stairs. yasmine and naomi still hadn't shown up at 6:15 and i was secretly hoping they didn't.

to my surprise around 6:30 we heard the doorbell ring. alivia went down to let them in. "oh my god hi liv!! your house is soooo beautiful." my least favorite voice echoed through the house. the sappy sweet of her fake nice attitude. yasmine has always been pretty quiet so she just waved to all of us when they walked in alivia's bedroom door. naomi had her eyes glued on me as if i didn't notice. embarrassed she got caught staring she stammered out, "oh uh hi deja...i loooooveee your fit. so simple and cute. really fits you." i forced a smile and a thank you.

i could be as fake as her just as easy. watch me. alivia broke up the awkwardness, "you guys want to go to the basement? there's a tv, a couple couches, we set up the air mattress and pull out bed for everyone to be comfortable." she smiled nervously. we all followed her down the two sets of stairs. i sat down on the couch next to ella and we all sat on our phones with the office on for background.

naomi's voice interrupted the tv, "guys i have to tell you about who i went out with the other night." there was a chorus of, "who?" from the crowd of girls. she smiled cockily, "mattia."

all the girls gasped except me. "ooo!! really?" "how was it?" "he's sooooo fine oh my godddd."

she said it went decent but that he's awkward and this that and the other. she rolled her eyes, "it was like he wasn't even interested." i tried to hold my tongue but i couldn't anymore, "he probably isn't." she looked at me like i had seven heads, "you want to repeat what you said again deja? just tryna make sure we all heard you right?" she continued to stare at me. i heard a'maree under her breath start to instigate, "ahhh shit. beat the bitch a-" ella interrupted her trying not to laugh, "she means, settle this as mature women."

i sat for a minute thinking about what i wanted to say. "you know what, i don't have anything to say naomi. i hope you guys go out again." i could've easily caused a scene, embarrassed her, explained how mattia definitely felt nothing for her but for alivia's sake i wanted to keep this night okay. i went back on my phone, occasionally showing chloe something on my phone, talking directly to everyone but naomi which she really didn't like.

obviously still very distraught about what i said she explained that her mom wanted her home because they had "family things to do." after she left, yasmine apologized for her behavior and how she shouldn't have even brought her in the first place. yasmine explained that naomi doesn't even act like that at home ever but she puts on a facade to impress others. i almost felt bad but the way she took this night that was about alivia and tried to make it about herself really upset me.

the rest of the night was significantly better than the start. we made brownies, laughed our asses off at the stupidest stuff, gabi told us some stories about the stupid shit she's done. it was just a great time. i forgot how much i missed being around these girls.

alejandro really did become a huge distraction this year because we had classes together, we grew even closer, etc. i felt guilty but i knew after this night we'd need to hang out again soon. besides, it was break i'm sure we'd get together again. by the time it was around 3 am each one fell asleep one by one. that left me and gabi awake. it was a bit awkward at first but we got into conversation pretty quickly.

she talked about how the polibios were like family to her and that she feels awful that mattia had seemed so sad recently. "i don't know what it is," she paused "i mean, all i know is that it's a girl. i don't know who she is but that kid really loves her. i guess she gives him mixed signals. i'm not really sure of any specific details so i can't judge." she shrugged. my heart felt like it was in my stomach.

he felt all of that for me. he tells other people about how sad he is and it's all my fault. ouch. that felt awful. i lied and told her that he's told me a little bit about it too and that i felt awful as well. i walked over to the empty couch said goodnight to gabi and laid my head down on the pillow.

i got the most sad about mattia at this time of day. it's when every feeling hit. how i felt about him, how i know he felt about me, all of that. it was also the time of day that i realized how much i was hurting alejandro without him even being aware. i decided it was better for me to just go to sleep instead of staying up and over thinking my whole sh!t show of a life. i closed my eyes and let my thoughts clear.
