Chapter Twenty-Four

C A R T E R
I didn't know what I was thinking exactly, but Murray told me to protect Lily at any costs. I would have done it anyway, when Large threatened to shoot her I would have had no problem going up to him and killing him on the spot.
But I tried to control myself, so I took her place.
But what I didn't understand is why he was looking for Violet. What did Violet have to do with this? It was Lily they wanted... They shot Rym because they thought she was Lily right?
I was really confused, but at the moment I was trying to figure out how not to die when they find out I don't actually know where Violet is.
Large's car is familiar, it's the same car that's run away from cops more times than I could count, the same car that kidnapped people for Monday Mayhem and other of Boss's sick games. There wasn't much about Boss' gang I didn't know. Murray used to be an inside man, Boss' consigliere. He had a pretty high ranking.
But Emily and Hunter has always been his top priority. Murray was smart, he met boss at a fricken coffee shop four years ago when he first started taking care of Hunter and Emily. They got to talking and Boss recognized him as an ex fighter in his Dug Out arena. Boss offered him a new position and the emcee job to fill his free time, and not having a job of his own anymore, Murray agreed.
But he knew there was something weird with Boss, something unhinged. At first things were great Murray had said, but he soon began to see Boss' true colors. The man was cruel and selfish. He was on his fifth wife and Murray was pretty sure he was cheating on that one. He was reckless and had little to no regard for life. He had one son who died and was basically alone.
Boss was known for his cruelty, and was greatly feared by a lot of other Mafia's and gangs. He was well known, and friends with the boss from the Chicago Outfit. He was in a lot of scary things, and was very much in over his head. That was the especially dangerous thing about winning the spot on top, you get all of Boss's problems.
These thoughts ran through my head as the car parked on the side of the road. We were in the dingy part of town, people called it 'The Graveyard'. Tons of illegal stuff when on down here and police kept a close eye on it.
"Granite!" Large's gravely voice piped up.
An equally large man came out of nowhere, except he had dark skin and a bald head. His face had an expression of anger and sadness that looked like it had been there for a long time. Not to mention he was covered with tattoos. Head to toe.
He looked ready.
I saw a pocketknife in his hand, a real knife in his left boot, and a handgun tucked away in his belt. Not to mention he was carrying a blow torch. That was new.
"You torchin' someone again?" Large laughed.
Granite chuckled and nodded. "Yea, boss's orders. We're celabratin'. We got the Easton's big bucks and paid off our debts. The Vendettas are free at last!"
Large smirked and looked at me. "This here is the infamous Blade from downstairs."
Granite's cold eyes were on me as he set aside his blow torch. "Oh yeah? What's he here for?"
