Chapter Thirty-Four

C A R T E R

My breath hitched.

What did he just say?!

"What is this?" I was standing up now, Hunter still looked shocked. "Some sort of sick joke?! What is this Murray?!"

"Shut up!" Murray stood up to face me. "I've wanted to tell you that for years! The cat's out of the bag now Blade! Or should I say, Carter."

Violet froze visibly. She muttered under her breath and her hand started to shake.

"What did you just say?" her voice was stern and breathy. "MURRAY!"

Murray glared at Violet murderously. "You idiot. Everything was going smoothly. It would have worked anyway if you hadn't ducked! I wanted to kill Carter and finish off the rest of his pathetic family!"

That's it.

"Why?! What are you doing?!" I jumped over the table until I was directly in front of the traitor. "Tell. Me."

Murray's POV ~

That's right. I'm the brother of Lily and Carter. Before mommy dearest, Jenna, met the big bad Gregory Easton, she was married to Hector Landon. They had me, but Hector threatened to kill me as a baby being the drunk he will always be and Jenna put me up for adoption and never looked back.

I lived in foster home after foster home, nearly every one was abusive or horrible. After I turned eighteen I started fighting, then emceeing at nineteen. All because of Gregory.

I wanted to destroy my mother, still do. Even after she got rich and had kids, she never found me. She never helped me. She just forgot about my existence.

Gregory wants to keep his whole Mafia thing from his family, I doubt even Jenna knows. But when two idiots who didn't pay attention found Lily and brought her in, I took that opportunity.

My cousins I'm quite fond of, I wanted to save them from a life of foster homes. It's the rest of the world I hate. But Carter, that was also dumb luck. Hector got remarried apparently but his wife died and Hector got back into drugs and alcohol. He was already destroying himself.

So I thought, why not make Carter pay for his father's wrongdoings. I brought him and Hunter into the gang business. I didn't think Carter would be any good, with Large around I figured he'd eventually get to far into it and I don't know, die or something.

But Carter got good, and then Greg made his tournament. I always thought I would be made boss! I was the consigliere! His most trusted adviser! I knew he wouldn't make that idiot Kale boss, he just posed as boss so Greg could keep his cover. But we both knew Kale was too much of a wuss to be boss.

But no, he decides do some 'boxing tournament'. He loved the sport all too much, he trained one of his daughters in it in fact.
