Chapter 1 She Refuses the Umbrella...

     What if Marinette did not take the umbrella?  This story explores this possibility.  It is done this way on purpose to explain further why Adrien and Marinette do not get along at all.  It also, shows how great a misunderstanding can leave to serious problems in the future!

     "Plagg, you know Marinette and I hate each other, right?" Adrien asks his cousin.

  "Why do hate her?" Plagg asks. He can not help, but wonder what went wrong with those two.

    "She is impossible that is why!  She did not believe me the day we met," Adrien scoffs.

   "I can not say I blame her when you were near the desk with the gum on it when she entered the classroom," Plagg says. He remembers the situation all too well.

   "If you like her so much, then why do not you ask her out?" Adrien asks angrily.

 Adrien's  Flashback to the past...

  Adrien arrives for his first day of high school.  He takes a look around and tries to find a seat. He sees this girl enter the place. He notices her right away because she is cute and he can see she means business. He tries to introduce himself, but the plan backfires on him.

   "Oh, you are a friend of Chloe's right?" She spat at him as if he were an alien from space.

   "Yes, but what does that have to do with anything?"  Adrien asks.

    "You put gum on mine and Alya's desk!  How could you?" She yells at him.

    "Marinette, I did not!" Adrien yells back.

  "Ha, you are not fooling anyone with your riches, popularity, or anything else new boy!" Marinette yells back.

  She pulls out a handkerchief and places it on the seat. Then, sits down. Alya sits beside her.

      Adrien slides into the seat beside Nino. He becomes friends with him right away. He sighs as he thinks, about the stubbornness of the Bluenette, Marinette, and wishes he could be her friend.

    "Wow, man! That girl hates your guts!" Nino teases him.

   "Yeah, I know! " Adrien says. He sighs again.

       Later, the school day is over, and Adrien walks outside with his stuff. He notices everyone else has gone home except for himself and Marinette. He grins when he sees her.

      It happens to be wet out too since the rain started up. 

"Great, rain!  Just what I need right now!' Marinette says with sarcasm to her voice.

    "Here, take it!  I do not need it, it will keep you dry!"  Adrien says. He offers her his umbrella.

    "What?  No way, I rather die than take anything from you rich boy!" Marinette blurts out. Then sticks her tongue out at him.

    "Look, Marinette I am new here, and it is my first time at a real school.  Honest, I did not put the gum on your desk," Adrien says.

   "So what?  You know who did it right?" Marinette scoffs.

   "Yes, but ..." Adrien says.

  "Tell me then, who did, hmm?" Marinette asks.

"I can not tell you that Marinette," Adrien says.

  "Fine, by that way see if I care!  Now, back off, Agreste!  I want nothing to do with you or your stupid umbrella!"  Marinette yells at him. She walks home in the rain and gets wet.

    Adrien watches her go, climbs into the limousine and decides from then on out, he hates her!  he hates Marinette Dupain-Cheng!  For she is the girl who refuses his umbrella.

  End of  Flashback....         

   Adrien can not believe Plagg would make him remember that horrible day.  The day the girl refused his friendship and made him hate her. The day he felt like a stupid boy because it was also the day he fell in love with her. 

   Adrien dares not admit he has any feelings other than hatred for her. It would be far too painful.  He decides to let the hatred take reign instead. It is easier this way. It is better because she does not want anything to do with him anyway.
