A few days before the ball, Hermione and I had ventured off to Hogsmeade to buy the things that we would need before the dance, which obviously included dresses.
Hermione was excited, and I, however, was not. I had a bad reputation when it came to dress shopping, and it usually consisted of at least one breakdown. But at the same time, I felt like it wouldn't go so badly, considering I was actually going dress shopping with a female this time.
Other than that, I was curious to see how Hermione would react in that sort of—setting. At first glance, Hermione looked like the type to wouldn't want to get out of her comfort zone in the slightest—which was correct for the most part.
"Hermione, this would look so pretty on you!" I said, holding a dress up to her face. It was a strapless baby blue dress with a sweetheart neckline, that looked as if it would go all the way to her ankles.
She looked up from the rack she was going through and cringed. "You know that blue isn't my color," She said.
"It definitely is, you're just stubborn," I said, putting the dress back onto the rack.
"Here, how about this one for you?" Said Hermione, holding up an emerald green dress. "It would match with Draco's tie, because knowing Malfoy, he would be the one to wear a Slytherin tie to the ball."
"Hermione, that dress would make me look like a pureblood grandmother going through a midlife crisis." I scowled, taking the dress from her and putting it back on the shelf.
"Maya, we've been here for an hour and we've gotten absolutely nowhere," said Hermione. "We've got to find something, the ball is in less than a week!"
"One thing that I've learned from dress shopping in the past is that dress shopping is a long and complicated—oooh Hermione look." I stopped myself, as a periwinkle dress a few isles away caught my eye. It was hanging right on the front of the rack, as if it was just calling for me to look at it.
I walked over to it and picked it up.
I personally didn't like it for myself, but I felt as if it would look great on Hermione. "Hermione do you like it? I feel like you would."
She furrowed her eyebrows slightly. "I don't know..." she said wearily, taking the dress out of my hands so that she could examine it more.
"Please Hermione?" I begged.
"I'll do it if...." she smirked, turned around, and went back to the isle that we were looking at dresses in before. She looked around for a second and pulled a red dress out of it.
I groaned. "Hermione..."
That was the first dress that she noticed when she walked into the store. She wanted me to try it on badly, and I had declined, saying that it wouldn't look good on me. After about five minutes of minorly arguing about it, Hermione had given up.
"Come on!" Said Hermione excitedly. "I'll try on the one you chose if you try on the one that I did."
I sighed. "Fine."
We switched dresses and made our way to the changing rooms, which were in the back corner of the store. We both went into our separate rooms.
It was then that I took some time to actually admire the dress that I was holding.
It was an off-the-shoulder Gryffindor red dress with a sweetheart neckline. It had many different embroidered flowers and other designs going down the middle, and it was a quite beautiful dress. The only reason why I had said no to Hermione in the first place was because I thought that it just had no possibility of looking nice on me.
