"It's about my parents," Ariel said.
"What happened?" I asked.
She started to cry more. Ariel reached into her robe pockets and handed me a letter. She wrapped her arms around my neck and buried her face in my robes as she cried.
"What's this?" I asked her.
"Read it. From the Foys." Said Ariel.
Dear Ariel,
It has been a while since you left with the Potters. Your father doesn't know that I'm writing this, but I just wanted to tell you something. He didn't really want me talking to you at all, since you are a witch, but you have to know eventually. Since you were a baby, we've been hiding a secret from you. I don't know how else to say this but, you're adopted. One night, you appeared on our doorstep with a note. The note is stapled to the bottom. I'm sorry I didn't tell you.
~Kathleen Foy.
"Holy shit, how didn't I know this?" I asked. "Did you read the bottom?" Asked Ariel.
I shook my head and kept reading.
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Foy,
This is Ariel. Her birthday is April 22nd, and she is about a week old. I am leaving her at your doorstep because I know that Maya Potter lives here, and I want them to grow up together, considering I am Maya's godfather and Ariel's father.
Unfortunately, I do not have the ability to take care of either of the children right now, but eventually, they will find me. I am sorry that I am forcing such responsibility onto you, but I heard from a little bird that you wanted to have another child, but you couldn't since after your firstborn, you aren't able to have children.
I don't really know what I'm supposed to write since it's not very common that people leave their children on other people's doorsteps. But when you do tell Ariel, show her and Maya this note, and let them know that I love them both dearly. It's just very complicated right now.
Thank you very much.
When I saw the initials signed at the bottom, I almost spat out my pumpkin juice.
~S.S.
"What the actual fuck is happening?" I muttered, dropping the letter and massaging my temples.
"Who is S.S.?" asked Ryan, who took the note after I read it. He passed it to Hermione, who passed it to Harry, who passed it to Ron.
"I have no idea. He signed my Hogsmeade paper." I said.
"How didn't you know this?" Asked Hermione.
"I don't remember anything from back then. I was like three. All I remember are the Foys being thrilled that there was a new baby in the house." I Said.
"S.S." Hermione thought aloud. "Who's initials are S.S.?"
We all shrugged.
"Well Ariel," I started, as Ariel lifted her bloodshot eyes off of my robes. "You're my godsister."
"That's great, but who the hell is my father? Who's my mother? Are they okay? Are they still together? I have so many questions." She said. "I can't believe I've been lied to for my whole entire life."
