He sat on the edge of his base, staring out at the world that had been built during the past two years. It was incredible how the island had changed, with towns and cities raising up from where there used to be a landscape of plains and cliffs. Yet the island still had the feeling of home.
Still, he was restless. Undoubtedly, some of the best memories he had were built here, much like the shops and houses and other such landmarks. However, there seemed like there was nothing left he could do at this point other than wait and plan for the future when they would leave this place behind.
He knew it was going to happen. Nothing lasts forever, after all. But he was worried about how. He had left worlds before, but never on a good note. Always forced out for his own wellbeing and the wellbeing of the people around him.
Logically, he knew that it was incredibly unlikely that something like that would happen this time. But instinct and past experience told him otherwise. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't quell his emotions.
So he waited, for either disaster or something to prove him wrong. And he wasn't sure which he preferred. Sure, a disaster would be horrible, and he would miss the community that he'd come to love. But to be proven wrong would fling him into unknown territory.
It's almost kind of funny, how he was afraid that something good would happen, or at least that something bad wouldn't happen, more than he was afraid that something bad would. But it made sense in a strange sort of way. People always prefer the situations that they're used to, even if they don't like them.
But at the moment, nothing was happening, neither good nor bad, and that scared him as well. He had too much time, but it also felt like he didn't have enough. Numb to everything except for the passage of time and the nerve-wracking anticipation of being thrown into something new.
And the knowledge that there was really nothing he could do at the moment.
Nothing, that is, but wait.

Yeah, this is basically just a vent. I don't really know how to explain what I've been feeling lately in any form but this story, so here it is.
