It was my first day of starting a new school in a new town. I wasn't fully excited on moving but me and my mum needed a fresh start. I walked into school and headed straight for the headmaster's office. ''Ah you must be the new student, its Jamie Wright, right?''
''Yes, sir. Pleasure to meet you,''
''you to Mr Wright. Here is your timetable, your first class is Japanese so if you would like to follow me.'' I got up out of the chair and followed this short round bold man through the empty halls. We entered a classroom. ''Mr Insample you have a new student joining your class today. Class this is Jamie Wright and he is new to our school and to our town as well, so I want you all to make him feel welcome and show some school spirit.'' The headmaster said which was embarrassing and awkward. ''Welcome Mr Wright you can find somewhere to sit and see how well you get on with catching up.'' I nodded and took a seat at a desk a few rows back from the front. As soon as the headteacher left, a group of boys in the row behind me started throwing chewed up bits of paper at the girl sat next to me. The teacher could clearly see what was going on but did nothing to stop it. This girl had long light blue hair, ocean blue eyes and was wearing what looked like black and white fingerless gloves that go up to her elbow. All of a sudden, she jumped up, swore at the boys in Japanese then stormed out of the classroom. Once again instead of the teacher doing anything he just carried on with the lesson.
It's been a week since my first day at the school. I've managed to make friends and I've managed to fit in pretty well. I'm starting to like this school and I like the people in it. It was lunch time and me and my mates were in the back field playing some football and by that I mean I just stood there and did nothing whilst everyone else played, the girls had come to sit and watch as well. The ball was being kicked about and everyone was having a blast when my friend, Cameron, kicked the ball so hard it went zooming past me. Their faces all dropped. ''Great it's gone and bounced off Eggy Ellie,'' Cameron moaned.
''Who is Eggy Ellie and why is she called Eggy Ellie?'' I asked as I turned around and saw that blue haired girl from my class, she was sat on the grass sketching in her book.
''Ages ago we had to drop an egg from the top of the school and land it safely on the ground using a homemade parachute. Someone was about to take their turn, when the string on their parachute snapped and the egg came rolling out and smashed on Eggy Ellie's head.'' Said Melissa who was one of the girls hanging out with us.
''Plus, she's a weird freak that needs to be locked up in a mental hospital,'' it was the other girl Nicole this time.
''Well my ball is probably contaminated now,'' Cameron moaned as he stormed off in a huff. Part of me felt really sorry for her. We are in a few of the same classes and I don't think there's anything wrong with her. She just seems like a normal girl.
After school I was riding my skateboard, heading out of the school, when I noticed a massive group of people stood in a circle shouting and laughing at something. I pushed my way to the front and saw Ellie kneeling on the floor picking up what I believe is her belongings. Quickly, the crowd started to scatter the second a teacher started to head over. ''See you tomorrow Eggy Ellie,'' Melissa laughed as she threw Ellie's sketchbook into a puddle then strutted off. Without even thinking, I went over to Ellie and picked up the book and started to flick through it, it was full of really amazing drawings of different people, animals and landscapes. I see her drawing a lot whether she's sat in class or sat on the field during lunch and break. ''Here's your book.''
''Thanks,'' Ellie said as she took the book and started to walk away but I quickly caught up with her.
''So, do you like to draw?''
''Yeah," she replied shyly.
''I'm Jamie by the way and it's Ellie, right?'' She didn't answer me but instead just did a small giggle,
''What?"
''Nothing it's just weird hearing someone who is friends with the main group of people that pick on call me Ellie instead of Eggy Ellie.''
''Well I'll stick to just calling you Ellie.'' I carried on walking with Ellie and she carried on giving me weird looks. We were a few streets away from the school when she finally said something, ''why exactly are you walking with me?''
''I want to get to know you.'' I didn't really know why I was walking with her or why I even helped her. I wasn't thinking. ''Why? Are you setting up for a prank or something? If so, please just don't.'' Ellie asked nervously.
''What? No. It's just everyone says you're this big freak, but I don't think you are.'' After that me and Ellie continued walking together. We were laughing our heads off and messing about. I learned a few things about Ellie like when she's older she wants to be an illustrator and it is her dream to work with her favourite author called Katie Webb. Also, I've learned that she loves to read, especially books about murder mysteries. We arrived at her house; it was a small house that was mint green. ''I'm sorry,'' I said.
''For what?''
''For your drawings being ruined and everyone constantly being a jerk towards you, I have known you for less than half an hour and I don't see anything wrong with you.''
''It's not your fault.'' Ellie said in a depressed tone.
''Why do you put up with it?''
''There's nothing I can do to stop it and I try to just ignore it and not care.'' I felt sorry for her. Ellie said goodbye then went off inside whilst I skated off home.
