It was early evening and I was on my way to meet Cameron and the other boys so we could all head to the game togethers, I was only going to support my mates. Everyone was joking and messing about, but I wasn't able to join in with the fun. Ever since I left Ellie with Alex, I've had this weird feeling that something bad went down between them and I feel partly responsible. As a matter of fact, I feel responsible for everything that happened to Ellie today, if I didn't trying to get the group to get to know Ellie and try to stop the bullying then Melissa and Nicole wouldn't have had the opportunity to play that stupid prank on her.
We just walked into school and the boys when off to the changing rooms and I went off to the football pitch to go find a seat in the bleachers. I don't think Ellie would be here, but it would be nice if she was, we could sit together, and we would both cheer the team on whilst acting like we had any clue on what was going on. I was about to start walking up the steps to head to the highest level of the bleachers so I could get the best view when I heard someone calling after me. I turned around and saw Melissa and Nicole running over whilst shaking their glittery pom-poms. They were wearing matching purple cheerleading outfits that were made up of miniskirts and cropped tops, Nicole had her usual space buns in, and Melissa had her hair tied back with a purple ribbon indicating she was the cheer captain, "Hey Jamie" Nicole said,
"I'm so happy you're here. We're going to perform a brand-new routine called Killer of Men," Melissa bragged.
"What's your cheer? We will kill your school?"
"No but that is brilliant so we might have to steal it, maybe cheer is your special talent."
"I think I'll stick to cheering the team on from the bleachers and plus with my clumsiness I'll attempt a flip and not only break my neck, but I'll break someone else's to." We all started laughing.
"Well we have to go now and show some school spirit, but we will see you after the game." Melissa and Nicole said their goodbyes then skipped off to join the rest of the cheer squad whilst I headed to my seat.
The game had begun, and I started to text Ellie, "hey you up?"
"Barely, what you doing?"
"At the game, you?"
"Reading."
"Any book suggestions as I'm bored out of my mind."
"Well to my knowledge it's just a bunch of morons running acting like four-year olds."
"The only thing I Know is they just scored and they're up against a school called Cottenham." I spent the remainder of the game talking to Ellie instead of playing attention the reason I came here in the first place. Ellie was fun and easy to talk to and I really enjoyed our conversations.
What felt like forever, the game was finally over. I didn't see the final score but the expression on the groups face make me believe they won. "My house for drinks!" Someone shouted. I was up for going home and either just getting into bed or maybe start to read a book called Cinder Woods that Ellie suggested I give a look at. The football team and cheerleaders were jumping and cheering about. "You coming mate?" Cameron asked,
"I was going to head off actually."
"What? Why? You need to come celebrate with us." Melissa moaned as Matt, Alex and their mates came over all still wearing their football gear.
"Well done team another great win in the bag," Matt bragged.
"Well we do have the best captain" one of the boys shouted,
"we are a team and we have an amazing cheer squad cheering us on." Matt stated as her pulled his sister and the other girls forward to make them take a bow. Once again, they all started chanting and cheering. "But we must give the biggest round of applause the man who scored the winning point," Cameron shouted as he whacked Alex on the back.
"Alex! Alex! Alex!" They were all chanting his name over and over again. "Hey Jamie, why aren't you join in?" Melissa asked.
"Sorry I was zoned out there for a minutes but well done everyone."
"Oh, so you're Jamie, I don't think we've met but Melissa has mentioned you," Matt said as he fixed his perfectly styled floppy hair that he probably spent hours perfecting.
"Hey," I said quietly as I fist pumped him back.
"Come on mate join in the celebration." I went to reply but my phone pinged. "Is that your girlfriend?"
"No." It was Ellie, I had asked her to send a picture of her Japanese notes as I wasn't doing so well at the topic we were studying and she's the best in the class.
"Is that my sister?" Alex shouted as he looked at me as if I had just murdered someone.
"It is as a matter of fact." Everyone looked at me in horror.
"Why is Eggy Ellie texting you?"
"I asked her to send me a photo of her notes from Japanese class as I'm failing,"
"then why not ask Cameron for his notes?" Melissa started interrogating me.
"Because she's the best in the class and no offence to Cameron but he is also failing."
"True I do suck at the language. I'm either sleeping or annoying Ellie as she's sat in front of me and I have seen her notes and they are good so I'm going to defend my mate here and say if Eggy Ellie is going to be here then we may as well use her notes as well as for our entertainment." Cameron said as his put his arm around me. This is not what I wanted and now I feel like I've made things worse for her. Is that all they see Ellie as? Some toy for them to play with for fun.
The cheerleaders went off with most the team to change and started the celebrations, only Alex, Matt and a boy I believe is called Cole remained. I went to go but Alex stood in my way. "Can I help you?" I asked nervously,
"you can actually but staying away from my sister. Got it?"
"Why do you care?"
"I don't. Just stay away from her."
"It's not up..."
"Listen mate if Alex says stay away then just do it," Matt interrupted.
"But why should I?"
"Because I don't trust you and you could tell her stuff we don't want her knowing."
"I wouldn't so."
"Looks like we are going to have to get it into his head another way boys." It didn't take me long to realise what they meant by that and I had zero time to react. I had Cole coming up from behind me and he grabbed my arms and twisted them back. Max started to punch me in the stomach and sides. It hurt like hell. He was strong and his punches were powerful. Alex just stood there watching just stood there watching it all happen. What was wrong with them all? I was getting pummelled because I talk to a girl they don't like. It's absolutely pathetic. Matt punched me so hard in the chest that I jolted and fell to the floor. "Now will you stop?" Matt demanded as he knelt down to my level. I said nothing but instead just stared at him dead in the yes and spat blood in his face. "Apparently not. The kids got determination and doesn't know when to quit. I like that." Cole picked me up and once again I had my arms twisted back. "One more big one should get it into him," Matt started to charge at me. Just before he went to punch me, I used all my strength to kick him making him go flying back to the ground then I stomped on Cole's foot causing him to let me go and started hoping about. I used my remaining energy and sprinted off as quickly as possible.
As soon as I was out of sight, I ducked into a nearby alleyway and took a breather. I wasn't going to let a bunch of bullies tell me what to do. Ellie is my friend and I'm not going to let them stop me. I started to call Ellie to tell her what happened. "Hello?" I quickly hanged up the phone and texted her saying "sorry butt dial." I believe it's best to not tell her what happened as she'll most likely blame herself and I don't want to make her more depressed. I don't want to add to her depression. I slowly started to stumble home, but it was hard as it was painful to walk.
