Ok, so I was talking to my sister who was in elementary school and we were talking about books. And she said, "I wanted to check out mockingjay but the librarian wouldn't let me."
I thought, "of course not! That's the 3rd book in the trilogy, you read the 1st book first! And you're only in 3rd grade maybe read that book next year."
But that's not why the librarian wouldn't let her check it out. It was because only 5th graders can read THG during the 2nd semester.
WHAT?!?!?!? Excuse me?!?!?!?
Now I get that 1st through 3rd grade should not read that book but 4th and 5th graders?????? I read THG at the beginning of 5th grade and my friend read it in 4th. This is seriously the stupidest thing I've ever heard. What bothers me about this that THG was a GREAT series. So when I see someone reading one of the books I'm like "yaaaaaaas! Great book! You go read that book!"
And now the elementary school is preventing children from reading this amazing series. And besides, kids have seen worse stuff on TV then what you will ever read in that book. So don't even argue that its "too violent". I mean we're talking about kids that play "call of duty" and watch R-rated movies.
I mean what's next? They're going to prevent people from seeing the movies because we all know that's way more violent than the book. I can just picture it:
*5th grader sits in the theater during best part of Mockingjay*
*school principal walks in*
Principal- is that you Jimmy Bob? You know you're not aloud to watch this PG 13 movie!
Random person- hey! We're trying to watch a movie!
Jimmy Bob's mom- well, I actually I approve of-
Principal- no buts! I'm going to take Jimmy Bob to see Thomas the tank engine!
Jimmy Bob-wait! This is my favorite part! Katniss was just going to-
Principal- I don't want to hear it!
Ugh, it just bothers me that 4th and 5th graders can't read great books because of stupid school rules.
So do you agree or disagree with this? Let me know in the comments!
