We locked the door behind us and left for the beach, I was determined to work hard today… even if it killed me...
“You sure you wanna ditch today nerd?” he mocked, I stuck my tongue out
“Yes I’m sure” I smiled wryly “Now hurry up and unlock the doors, its bloody freezing mind!”
“Should have dressed warmer then!” he scorned
“Shut up birdie!”
“What was that?” raising a brow I saw his lips quiver… that was lame…
“It’s the best I could come up with ok?” he gave a little chuckle then unlocked the car “Finally!”
It took us just over an hour to get to the beach, making small talk along the way… I still didn’t tell him about the dream last night… if that’s what I can call them anymore… but did I really want to tell him? That I knew he had dragged me from my mother… that he had not only saved but doomed me? No… I think I had better keep that to myself…. Or at least for now anyway. Stepping out of the car my nose was hit with the fresh scent of the salty sea, and my ears deafened by the screeching squawk of the hungry seagulls above.
“Where to sweetie?” he asked me, I knew just the spot… it was a spot me and my father used to go to hide from my mother when I were younger, we used to pretend that she was a dreadful monster who was going to make me eat cockles for dinner… yuck! Thinking back to that I couldn’t help but smile and my naivety, things were better then.
“Over there…” I pointed to a cave in the distance “It’ll be warmer and out of sight”
“Great thinking batman”
“Quite mocking me dumb ass!” I teased, knowing we were going to be walking on sand I took off my boots and began to the lead the way
“Why’d ya take your boots off?”
“I don’t want to get sand in them” I stated, hearing the tut behind me I shook my head, spun around and stuck my tongue out... it was childish I know but I felt happy today… so why the hell not?
“You women, your all the same… always worrying about your possessions before your bloody health!”
“Yeah well… get used to it pretty boy, these boots cost an arm and a leg so… yeah… I don’t want them ruined” he went silent for a while and began to follow me like a sheep, I knew we would have to cross a shallow patch of water before we entered the cave, that was the real reason why I took them off… these shoes were not built for water. The sand was soft and floated around my toes like silk; I loved how sand did that… ‘Simple minds, simple pleasures’ I mused.
The cave was large and would echo at the slightest of sounds, the walls danced with mixtures of blues and white light that was reflecting from the water below. Right at the back of the cave was the spot I was after, it was just big enough for two people… perfect.
“Ta-da!” I sang as I stopped and held my arms out in a dramatic and over-used gesture.
“Wow” he mouthed, giving a little whistle at the end of it “Quite impressive”
“Thanks” I beamed
“Now… what did you want to learn?”
“Well… obviously a little more than last time…”
“Sit down then, and let’s get started” I sat down on the cold and hard flooring, crossed my legs and waited for what he had to say next, he sat down in front me and crossed his legs too “Now… I want you to do exactly as you did last time” I closed my eyes and began to think of myself as being weightless, no ties, and no worries but free. My heart began to feel as light as a feather, my mind picturing a bird…. My eyes sprung open “Good… you’re getting quicker”
