THUNDERBIRDS ARE GO!
(THUNDERBIRDS opening titles)
July 2068. KABOOM! A massive fire explodes furiously in the Australian forest. Trees burning up and collapsing. Gas and gas and gas pouring out endlessly from the vicinity. An uncontrollable feast of a wild fire. ROAR! BANG! KABOOM! WHOOSH! More trees begin toppling down, flattening anything they fall onto. POW! POW! A small metal box sits in the middle of the blazing inferno, suffering and scorching from the overpowering heat and mighty flames. Unlike Fireflash in my last work, this is only an escape pod with the two pilots concealed inside, dying rapidly from heat exhaustion and the toxic fumes. Would that make it stealing if it was from me? However, the powerful Firefly drives through the wreckage of the crisped metal – strongly pushing it to one side. Virgil is at the controls of his vehicle. KABANG! Another roaring detonation in the fire. He contacts Scott outside the infernal destruction, watching from afar with his Thunderbird parked almost immediately by his side with his hoverbike.
Virgil:
Mobile Control from Firefly. In target position now Scott.
Scott:
F.A.B Virgil! Mobile Control to Recovery Vehicles, are you standing by?
Alan:
Standing by Scott!
Scott:
Ok Virgil, ignite!
Virgil carefully aligns the gun attached to the main body of the Firefly to fit precisely in the centre of the shield. With sweat pouring off his brow, he presses the ignition! BANG! The charge blasts from Firefly! Moments later, the fire explodes again! KABANG! WHOOSH! CRASH! BOOM! POW! The blast electrifies! Virgil does his best to keep Firefly under control from the explosion. It actually settles down effectively.
Virgil:
Firing water now!
At the back of the vehicle, a hose is lifted upwards and points out upwards yet forward enough. It begins launching more water up, helping control further and less severe fires from around the escape capsule sat in the middle of the burning.
Firefly to Mobile Control, you are clear to proceed.
Scott:
F.A.B! Mobile Control to Recovery Vehicle 1, you are clear to go Alan.
Alan:
Right Scott. But I still think we should have airlifted it out of the danger zone.
Scott:
Alan, you have no idea how hot it is even sat out here. How do you think Virgil feels? Besides, you have the air conditioning on in yours.
Alan:
And I'm sure Virgil has his up to maximum too.
Scott:
Yeah. That fire isn't going to hold out forever you know Alan. The sooner you get them out the better.
Alan's Recovery Vehicle runs into the forest moderately slowly, as we see shots of Alan inside Recovery 1. Meanwhile, Firefly gently begins reversing out and proceeds outwards from the baking heat.
Alan:
Firing charges now!
Recovery 1 lines up the two charges, pointing them directly towards the escape capsule.
Fire!
The charges fire! CLANG! CLANG!
Descending out now!
The Recovery Vehicle heaves out the metal box, slowly and with gentle ease. In order to avoid it tripping over any of the other fallen wreckage of the crash. The fire is beginning to grow back stronger still. Eventually, Alan successfully brings out the capsule and brings it safely out from the fire, leaving it on the outskirts of the flaming forest. The grapples are unattached.
Mobile Control from Recovery Vehicle, escape capsule has been successfully removed from the danger zone.
Scott:
Well done Alan! You and Virgil did a great job today!
Alan:
Thanks. I see what Virgil meant about the heat. Even with maximum power of the air conditioning.
Scott:
Yeah. Ok Alan, head back to Thunderbird 2 and I'll see you back at base.
Alan:
What about the fire and the two pilots though?
Scott:
We'll leave that for the fire brigade to handle. Everyone has been evacuated from the surrounding area, and the medics are on their way to rescue out the pilots. Anyway, I want to make sure no aircraft or press media are going to follow back to our base.
Alan:
F.A.B. Returning to Thunderbird 2. Mission successfully completed.
Alan turns the Recovery Vehicle in the opposite direction, before lightly returning back to the pod. Recovery 1 is now out of camera range, and another successful mission for International Rescue, for now.
