Scene 8 - XK9 in danger

The XK9 continues to drift on a collision course with the moon, the crew busy working at the control consoles attempting to make some sort of effort to perhaps make a correction in the flight path and programing. Nothing has been achieved, as we first see the XK9 fly towards its damaged course before we see inside with the crew sweating it out to save themselves.

Shuttle Pilot:

Still nothing! We can't shake her off course!

Dr. Rimmer:

And no assistance in time from the other Lunarvilles. And also no time to send another ship into orbit to help save us.

Dr. Glanville:

How much longer do you estimate we have until impact?

Dr. Bell:

Fifty minutes.

Shuttle Pilot:

That isn't very long left. Fifty minutes sat here knowing you're going to die soon.

Dr. Bell:

We can't use an escape pod can we?

Shuttle Pilot:

Not installed. An XK9 is far too small.

Dr. Bell:

But we can't just sit around and wait for those fifty minutes to run out.

Dr. Rimmer:

Well said Dr. Bell. Just keep her course as steady as possible, pilot.

Shuttle Pilot:

Yes sir!

Dr. Rimmer:

Dr. Glanville, you are the most qualified in engineering and computing, are you absolutely sure that nothing can be done to repair the damaged controls?

Dr. Glanville:

Not a chance Dr. Rimmer. As far as we see it, we, the Moon, or the Earth can make no possible means of a rescue... Wait! Of course! Of course! Why didn't I think of it beforehand?

Dr. Rimmer:

Think of what?

Dr. Glanville:

We scientists! Too busy trying to find the answer to every problem when we so clearly overlook the obvious! We call International Rescue!

Dr. Rimmer:

Dr. Glanville, you are a genius! That's our best and only option! Shuttle Pilot!

Shuttle Pilot:

XK9 calling International Rescue! International Rescue, come in please!

Shuttle Launch Controller:

XK9 from Control, is there no possible method you can use to course correct?

Shuttle Pilot:

Negative Control. We've searched as far as we can with the instruments and circuits, and nothing can be done in time to repair them. Sir, we were just about to make a distress signal to International Rescue!

We see the shot of Thunderbird 5 again, then inside where we see John standing by at the controls listening carefully once more.

Shuttle Launch Controller:

International Rescue! What? In all my years I have never had the disgrace, the sacrilege, the ill-mannered... Wait a minute, did you say International Rescue! Why, that's a brilliant idea! Carry on XK9!

John:

International Rescue to XK9, we read you loud and clear. Your distress calls have been intercepted, and our space rocket will be here shortly.

Shuttle Pilot:

Thanks International Rescue! But I don't exactly want to hurry you, we now have forty-eight minutes left until we eventually crash into the moon!

The XK9 rocket is left to drift off towards the moon, with the collision course still set...
