                         Amelia

I woke up the next morning earlier than usual but I had a reason for that.

A big fight was going to happen tonight.

It's been a little over ten days since I had my last fight and I really needed to win this one no matter what.

The rent was coming up and according to my calculations, the money that wasn't spent on essentials and was actually saved up from my previous fights wasn't going to be enough to cover even half the price.

I shuddered just thinking about the idea of having to deal with my creepy landlord.

I got dressed in some leggings and a sports bra, topped with a hoodie since the weather is starting to become colder, then proceeded to slip in my worn out and ripped running shoes.

I really have to be more careful about my spendings and start to save up to buy some new ones.

After grabbing an apple, I made my way outside to begin the day whith a morning run.

Yeah, I know it really sucks, and my lazy ass really didn't want to do it this early in the day, but I have to increase my chances to win this money any way I can.

I would do anything to make sure Luke was fine.

I put on my earbuds and started by jogging a bit.

One hour and a good 6 miles later, I was finally done with my run around town and went back to the appartement at the exact same time Luke woke up.

"Where were you ?" I got asked as soon as the door closed.

"I was just out for a run. Gotta stay in shape you know." I said a small smile tugging on my lips looking at his sleepy head.

"You hate waking up early and you're already too skinny. It doesn't even look healthy."

I mentally winced at his words. I admit, I tend to skip some in order to be able to feed him. Nothing mattered to me as long as he is happy.

But to my dismay, he was way too mature and smart for a ten year old boy.

Choosing to ignore his last comment, I  went to our small rusty kitchen to prepare his usual cereal bowl with some milk. Then made my way to my room to start getting ready for school.

I went in the shower and cleaned myself with the freezing water which was getting worse and worse with the cold weather coming up.

After detangeling my hair and scrubbed my body rapidly, I got out from this thing I now call a freakin freezer and started brushing my teeth and hair.

After putting on some jeans and a gray hoodie, and putting up my hair in a loose messy bun, a made my way to check on my little brother.

Everything done, we went on my bike and did the same thing we did every weekday.

Dropping Luke to middle school than arriving late at school.

Just before removing my helmet to go inside school, I got a text from Hannah

Hannah Banana: I'm sick today, won't be able to make it to school, love you bitch.
xx ur fav girl.

I sighed in annoyance at this news, but texted her telling her that I was going to pass by with some snacks after school. Looks like I'll spend the day alone then.

Finally decided to walk towards the gates, I saw Jace near the school entrance, smoking a cigarette.

"Yuck, I hate this thing." I thought.

His hair were sitting messily in his hair, but in a good way, and he was wearing a pair of black jeans with a gray hoodie too, kind of matching me. The only difference was that he actually looked good whilst I was probably resembling a sick potato. He wasn't with his group of friends which was odd since they look like they're glued by the ass.

Weirdly, he even looked like he was waiting for someone else.

I saw him looking at me and secretly wondered if he was waiting for me.

I immediately went back to reality knowing we don't even know each other.

"This thing is bad for your health, you know." I found myself saying to him as I made my way to the door.

He shrugged his shoulder than said in a bored tone. "I only smoke when I'm stressed."

"What's wrong?" I then asked him with a little bit of concern laced in my voice.

He looked a bit taken aback from my question but quickly recomposed himslef and put back on his signature poker face. "Forget about it, it doesn't matter."

We immediately fell in an awkward silence, not really knowing what to say, but then I remembered the event of yesterday.

"Um thank you so much about yesterday by the way. What you did was really nice. I owe you one." I said shyly while looking at the ground.

What was wrong with me? I'm never shy or intimidated by anyone, let alone a teenage boy.

"Yeah, you definitely do owe me one cupcake. What class do you have right now?"

"Chemistry I think. What abou you?"

"Same. Come on let's go then. We're already late."

I frowned but still walked beside him towards our class. Even though we shared most of our classes together, we never really acknowledged each other. So why was he taking a sudden interest in me?

After five minutes of silently walking too close for my comfort, we arrived just in time as the class was about to start.

He didn't miss my schocked face as he sat in the seat right next to me.

"What's wrong with you, do I have something on my face or what?"

"Uh no I was jus-"

"Quiet down everyone, we need to start the lesson." A stressed Mrs. Bridge said while softly hitting the table with her nails.

As she began explaining some random things, my mind started drifting to other things.
