Taming the Darkness (Series 3)

CHAPTER NINE

BILLIUS quietly walked in, his hands are shoved in the pockets of his black pants.

"You're late again," a voice boomed from the grand staircase.

Huminto siya sa paglalakad at nilingon ang nagsalita. There stood a man in his fifties, Ambrose Guevarra, his father, or to be more specific, his adoptive father--more like his legal guardian. As usual, the man is wearing an expensive pair of suit, black shiny shoes, and a branded wristwatch, showing off how wealthy he is for owning a Food Corporation with branches scattered around the world; he also owns one of the largest Security Company in the country; and is also a Mafia Lord. And Billius is supposed to be the next in line because Ambrose does not have an heir.

Supposedly, he is just an ordinary orphaned teenager in this world. The people around him are not aware of who he really is, or what he really is. But Ambrose and the organization run by him, knows about the existence of the non-humans. They are knowledgeable. They are even aware about the recent war between non-humans.

Billius is not afraid of anyone. Iyon ang dahilan kung bakit nagustuhan siyang ampunin ng lalaking ito. He is really good at whatever he does. Aside from that, Ambrose knows that there is something special about him, he did told him so the night Ambrose found him fighting with his men in a narrow alley. Billius defeated at least twenty of them without breaking a sweat, and so Ambrose decided to take him in.

Billius accepted.

"I just had an appointment."

"With the girl?"

His gaze sharpened.

Kung mayroon man siyang kahinaan, it's this person that he needs to protect.

"Hindi ko alam kung bakit sinusuway mo ako ngayon nang dahil sa babaeng iyon, Billius," panimula nito habang naglalakad pababa ng hagdanan. "And you are even dead-set on protecting her even from me."

"I have my own my reasons."

The man let out a throaty chuckle. "The vampires and rogues are after her. There must also be a reason as to why they want her dead."

"But killing an ordinary human like us won't answer our questions. And we shouldn't be like them."

"Who said that I ordered for her death?"

Billius smirked. "The staff almost made a ruckus inside the hotel right after we arrived. And they all said that you ordered them to shoot on sight."

The man shrugged. "I was only referring to the non-humans."

Alam niyang nagsisinungaling ito. But he didn't want to upset him so he decided to just go on with it.

Natawa itong muli. "And those people needs to know who they should be loyal to."

"You don't have to go after them. Wala silang choice but to comply or else they will die in my hands."

Mas lalo pang lumakas ang tawa nito.

"The hunters are now keeping their eyes on us because of what you did."

Napatango-tango ito. "They must have been informed about the ambush."

Nagtagis ang mga bagang niya nang maalala ang pag-atakeng naganap sa harap ng dating tinitirahang apartment ni Zenaia. Mabuti na lang talaga at nalaman niya kaagad ang tungkol doon at naabutan pa si Zenaia at nailigtas ito. She is just an ordinary human, a simple gunshot could kill her in an instant. And to think that Ambrose ordered his men to ambush her like that.

"Alam mong ang kauna-unahang misyon ng mga hunters ay ang protektahan ang mga ordinaryong tao mula sa panganib, even from humans like us as well."

"I admit I made a mistake."
