"Austin." I gasped when my vision slowly turned from blurred to pitch black. Suddenly, everything felt so difficult to reach out for; my shears, breath, light, my will to get up. I twitched out of the fit that I was having and forced my eyes to stay open despite the dizziness in my light head. I was almost having a sleep paralysis; minus the sleep.

When my vision came back to its normal focus, I looked at Alexa- the eldest one of the furies, who was furiously looking down at me. It took me a minute to realize what she was doing. Their constrictors are holding me guarded as I struggle to get up. Her hands move, making circles in the air, thus to guide their pets how well to coil around me. I was basically being mauled by my own cousins' boa constrictors. Who would have thought, right?

I look around for Austin but he is nowhere to be seen. Maybe, he is gone to get some help? How did Alexa let him go? Panic struck me like a lightening and I struggled, looking around everywhere for Austin. What if Alexa's pets were already holding him hostage? I tried to wild out of their tightened grips but their scaly skins only tightened more around my wrists and my ankles. I wondered if they would even allow their pets to bite us?

My eyes tried to meet Alexa's but they didn't. Couldn't. Because Alexa was unwilling to meet my eyes, and for good reason. She knew if I'd stare at her eyes for too long, I might just compel her to let me go.

A few minutes later, Austin appears and he moves towards me. A wash of relief goes through me as I looked at his untouched, unharmed body. Thank goodness, he is fine. I make a vain attempt to tell him to run away for his life but my voice doesn't come out above a whisper. I stray my eyes away desperately from Austin to Alexa, hoping she wouldn't kill him and that is when I catch a creeping grin on her face, etched with mockery.

Her eyes met with Austin's and her smile widened. "Kill her." She ordered and I frowned.

What the fuck?

My gaze suddenly fell on the shining hilt of a blade, embedded with diamonds. I was caught unawares when I realized what Austin was holding. "Fatae." I breathed under my breath. Alexa went on sermonizing about the powers of the blade that I already knew of, but I wasn't even listening. My eyes were held on his, wanting to plead to him to not do something stupid or funny.

He bored his eyes into mine for a minute and then on cue, we both looked away. I, thinking that he'd again think I compelled him for whatever he should be held accountable for, looked away.

But the question was a good distracting exercise for me to stop myself from pondering over other, more questionable things like, how did he get the sword? Why is he holding it? Or why Alexa smiled so widely and so confidently when she ordered him to kill me?

"Come on, human!" She coaxed him. "She is the demigod of death. A murderer. A sinner." Her mouth curved into a distasteful way as if she just saw a dirty diaper.

"I will." He said confidently and my heart sank.

"But I want to ask a question..." He added.

"This is not the time for questions. Hurry up!" Alexa stomped her foot almost like a child.

"Why? The sword only works till midnight? After that it might turn into a carrot?" He snapped back.

For a moment, I forgot that I was being held captive by venomous snakes and my own cousins who were ordering the boy I fell in love with to kill me. I tried to keep a straight face as Alexa continued to glare at him.

"Do not waste anymore time! Ask away!" She said impatiently. I had started to like the way Austin was getting on her nerves even though I know how dangerous she is.

"Why are you calling her a sinner? She didn't commit any sin. Have you?" He turned to me casually, with a small frown on his face and I wished I could get up this moment, grab the bottle of Lethe and make him forget that this question had ever crossed his mind. I don't want him to know.

"She has!" My cousin said with an unappreciative look on her face. "Can't you see her black eyes? They are black because she is a sinner!"

"But what is her crime? What did she-"

"Enough!" Alexa screamed. "Just kill the sinner!"

"But-"

"Just kill her!"

"I won't kill her until you tell me what sin did she commit?"

"Kill her and I shall divulge." She said, face red with rage.

"No."

"Then you must pay-" She was about to storm towards him and probably kill him when I screamed a big 'No'.

"Austin, kill me!" I whimpered. "Please." I said.

"Martha, I am not-"

"Please." I commanded than begged.

He sighed, closing his eyes as if he was going to do some yoga or meditation. I saw the sword's blade glimmer, as he raised his arms up against his ears with both of his palms tightly gripping the shiny hilt.

Okay, this better be fast. Like a band aid.

He releases a breath that he had been holding in for a while and then with a masculine grunt, I watch his hands come down.

It happens in slow motion; his hands come down, I hear a slice, I scream with my eyes closed and then the whole world turns black.
