HECATE

I knock.

My feet tap restlessly on the marble floor. I wait for a minute and knock again. Then again. I don't hear a response. I pound loudly this time, my foot bobbing like they are attached to some kind of spring.

I hesitate and then barge in without announcement.

Persephone and Hades' jerk away from each other and I blush with embarrassment. Persephone looks away and Hades is flushed with anger and well, embarrassment too, I guess? He glares at me. His face flustered, "What is it?"

"I am sorry to disturb your privacy, my lord. But this is important." I stammer.

"Well?" He says impatiently, clenching his jaw.

"Its Martha, the demigod of death, who sacrificed herself for a boy, a few weeks ago." I hesitate and look down at my feet.

"Go on. I am all ears." He says loudly, obviously irritated. I hesitate.

"She is gone."

"Gone?" He startles. "What do you mean, gone?"

"I have checked everywhere. Her soul is nowhere to be found. She is gone. Missing."

"Are you sure?" Persephone interjected and I nodded.

"No." Hades smiles though the rest of his face is hard with tension. It looks like he knows something.

"What is it darling?" Persephone asks.

"She is not gone." He says and I start to protest but he cuts me off.

"She has been stolen." He says. "From the world of the living." I gulp loudly.

"Well? What now?" Persephone asks.

"Inform the judges." He looks at me. "Tell them they have a case to solve."
