Continuation....Wei Wuxian finds himself now in the Cloud Recesses after seeing images of distortion at Lotus Pier. What will plague him now? And can Lan Wangji find a way to awaken him?
Wei Wuxian falls from the tree and lands on his feet as he takes another look around.
'It really is...'
"Wei Ying..."
He pauses in his moment of confusion and turns to Lan Wangji. However, it was not the present Lan Zhan that he knew. It was his younger self. Wei Wuxian looks to his own garments and realizes that he himself was also back in his first life in his youth.
'Is this during the period of time when we were taking lessons? It can't be....'
"Wei Ying...." he calls again. Wei Wuxian looks up.
"Ah...Lan Zhan...heh um what are you doing out here?"
"I should ask you the same. You're not supposed to be here either...."
"Huh?"
"Uncle has already made it clear where you should be at to recieve your punishment....I am to oversee that you follow through...."
"Eh?" He rubs his head and glances to the side. 'What punishment...? And which actions did I do this time? Why is this all messed up...it's as if my memory is tangled up and whatever is going on is causing me to feel as though I'm actually reliving things, but not in an organized matter. Whatever it is it's clumsy....very very clumsy....'
"Hurry up," he says coldly ignoring his silent behavior as he walks along to the library. The sound of the bell resonates through the air again.
"H..hold on Lan Zhan please tell me you're hearing that...!"
He turns to him.
"What nonsense are you talking about?"
"That bell! That ringing bell...I keep hearing it! And apparently no one else can...! I'm not going crazy I swear...!"
For a moment they pause and the image distorts to a bloody massacre.
"Are you sure...?"
Wei Wuxian stares at the pool of blood at his feet as he notices his appearance no longer the way he was before. His robes engulfed in dark colors, and his hair a mess and down over his body.
"W..wait..! Lan Zhan i...!"
"You...."
"A-Xian....!"
He's seen this scene far too many times. Of course, why wouldn't he see it? This moment was when he truly lost his mind. He was wrong. He had no control and in the end paid the ultimate price. He reaches out to catch his Older Sister's body, but as soon as he reaches for her she fades away as does everything else.
"Wait...! Come back...! Please!"
On the other side of reality, Lan Wangji tries his best, but even with his music he couldn't seem to do anything to help clear up his nightmares. He holds Wei Wuxian down as he starts to thrash about throwing his arms every which way he can. His breathing heavy and his skin covered in sweat. Pain and sorrow painted all over his face.
"Wei Ying...wake up....!"
"O...older sister.....no...." his teeth clench as he barley manages to get those words out as tears built up in his eyes only to fall over his cheeks. "I'm sorry......"
Lan Wangji notices his pain and frowns. He remembers that day all too well. The day that really turned everything for the worse. A day he truly always kept in his heart. On that day in Nightless City, he should have been there for him. He should have stood by him. But he didn't. Even if he were not to blame for anything, he wanted to help him, and yet he failed. He failed the one person he cares for most in this world. To watch him break down as soon as he lost his older sister was the most heartbreaking moment for him. Nothing could outweigh it.
