LONG WAY TO GO. LET'S SEE IF WE CAN GET TO WEI WUXIAN COMING BACK SOONER THAN LATER
YEAR 5
Another year comes, and this time Wangji makes a decision to send a letter every year on his birthday instead of the day of his death. It would be his gift to him since no one else but him would celebrate. And as per the request of Hua Cheng, he had also steadily helped A-Yuan with his memories. Within the year he was able to recall certain things. However, the memory of Wei Wuxian was still a long way from being recalled by the child. However, as he was prepared to send his letter out a small hand reaches up from his lap and grabs a hold of the ink he was using.
"A-Yuan..."
The little boy smothers his hand with the ink and places a hand print on the bottom of his letter and smiles.
"It's for mama...right?"
Wangji takes a moment before he asks for him to repeat what he had said.
"It's for mama...!"
"I never mentioned anything about a mother to you..."
A-Yuan nods, but smiles gently.
"But you always write these letters for someone....and you look like you love them very much. Because you smile more," he says.
Lan Wangji sets his brush down and lightly smiles.
"See?! You're happy!"
The corners of his lips were raised and his cheeks lifted a bit with them. It was rare for him to smile, and no one but A-Yuan has truly witnessed that kind of an expression. The little boy was more than observant, and was correct. He was happy to write his letters to Wei Wuxian knowing that they were going to reach him.
"Would you like to write one?"
"Can I?!"
He nods. The little boy cheers for joy and takes a brush as Wangji hands him a sheet of parchment paper. He hands him his own tub of ink and a smaller brush for him to write with.
"Ah...um...what's Mama's name...?"
Lan Wangji stares at him for a moment before finally making the decision to tell him his name.
"His name is Wei Wuxian or Wei Ying. You used to call him Xian-gege..."
A-Yuan stares at him and thinks on the name.
"I did....?"
"Yes..."
The little boy frowns.
"I don't remember...."
"You were very little it is alright..."
He frowns even more.
"But I want to...."
"You will just not now..."
Finally the little boy gives up and decides to just write his small letter to the supposed mother he used to have. Once he's finished Wangji lights up the incense sticks and sits with A-Yuan as the two pray for the Ghost King. They hear a jingle as a silver butterfly flies through the window and lands on the boy's head. He looks up opening his eyes and lights up immediately. He reaches up to catch it, but then pauses once it lands on his nose. Behind them a figure in red stands tall with his arms folded behind him.
"Hmph, he seems to like butterflies a lot."
Lan Wangji turns to him, "He does..."
"Hmph, well are you ready?"
