9 years later

Kyle’s POV

“Dude we have to go. These things only happen once.” Daniel my childhood friend says to me while walking inside my house. It has been 9 years and I’m living in a small town not far from my hometown. I now own and run my own glass manufacturing company. We distribute the glass worldwide.

“Not interested.” I said as I entered the through the living room door and taking off my jacket and throwing in on the chair. Daniel followed behind me and doing the same thing I did.

“Kyle. Can’t you just forget her? I’m sorry if I sound insincere but It’s been two years since she left and you got to let go man.” He said sitting on the couch and changing the channels.

“I don’t want to forget her and I am not going to this stupid reunion.” I said looking around for something or someone.

“It’s time you get mingling again. Don’t you want to see that Ashley girl that was crazy over you and that other one…. What’s her name?’’ Dan said looking down trying to remember.

“Oh! Jordan Carter!!!” he said rather too loudly.

“Oh yeah  Jordan. I wonder what ever happened to her..” I said to Dan. Jordan Charter. I wondered. The brown short haired girl who rode a bike to school. The last time I saw her was on our prom night when Ashley humiliated her in front of our class mates and teachers. I didn’t know that Ashley could do such thing and automatically I started hating her from that day on.

 Flashback

It took me 2 minutes to realized what Ashley had done to Jordan. I went still. My body went numb and I tried saying something but nothing came out. She looked at me, her eyes filled with hurt and pain and then she ran off. I tried following her but my legs couldn’t move I froze in one place until I heard Evelyn’s voice calling for Jordan and I shook awake.

Ashley wrapped her arms around me, pulling me into a kiss I stepped back and pulled her away.

“Kyle?” she asked dumbfounded, but I was taking steps away from her.

“DON’T! Ashley please don’t” I said angrily before running off to find Jordan.

Before I could walk out the door I was stopped by a painful slap in my face from Evelyn. I stepped back to look at her.

“You are the biggest jerk Kyle Matthews” She spit at me and went off. I wanted  to retort back and tell her that I was not involved but instead I ran towards the door and ran to the parking lot.

“Jordan!!!” I shouted over and over louder each time. I went looking for her in the parking lot, the play ground, the ladies room and some hangout spots  while calling her name.

“Look I didn’t know that Ashley would do this. I was not involved Jay!” I said loudly hoping she would hear me and come talk to me.

I looked all over the places again to no avail. Finally I decided to get my car. Without a warning the rain started pouring, and I ran into my car. I started the engine and drove over to her house. When I got there I knocked once and it was answered by her sister looking at me with the same type of painful eyes I just saw a while ago on Jordan.

“Where is she? Is she okay. Can I please, please talk to her I need to explain something." I said to her sister, worry evident in my voice and the next word coming from her mouth just froze me and drained the blood from my body.

“Jordan has left and is nowhere to be found.”

 End of Flashback

The scene played so fresh in my head and the sound of tiny feet coming near drew me out of my reverie. I looked for the culprit and there she was.

“Daddy are you back from work?” said a tiny squeaky voice, approaching me

“Yes Daddy is back my princess.” I said carrying her and kissing her all over the face. She giggled then wiggled off me to run to Daniel.

“Uncle Dan.” She squealed, and jumped on top of Daniel.

“Hello baby girl. How is my favorite niece? Did you behave today?’’ He asked and she nodded excitedly and laughed loudly as Dan tickled her.

“Are you guys still talking about the reunion that he doesn’t want to go to?’’ A voice from behind said, belonging to Sarah, who was Hailey’s nanny.

“Sarah please tell him to go. It will be a good thing for him to meet his old friends. No harm done in that.” Dan said.

“Dan is telling the truth though.” Sarah said. “You need to get your life back in order and move on from the past.” She said lightly.

”I can’t go. It's an evening event and who will look after her?’ I said pointing to my little princess who was trying to worm her way out of Dan’s hands.

“Find a better excuse 'cause you just being irrational. You know I can look after Hailey anytime of the day and she’s is not a problem at all.” Sarah said standing t me. She has been helping out since Hailey’s mom left us and has been more like a mother to her even though she is now in her late 40s’

“Okay Fine I will go..” I finally said surrendering  to them.
