Jordan’s POV

Luke came over an hour later and I had already packed my bags which consisted of a week’s outfit. I was ready to hit the road. Today I was keeping cool and casual with my black jeans and white lace blouse and flats. We took my luggage to his car and drove to the bus station. I bid him my farewell and caught a bus heading home.

The bus ride was long. It gave time to me think clearly about my life. I eventually fell asleep and dreamt about that haunted night again but this time instead of running away I ran into my parent’s arms. I held them tightly while sobbing on my dad’s shoulders and he kept soothing me by rubbing my back in a circular motion and my mom telling me that everything is going to be alright.

I was awakened by the lady sitting near me and told me I was sobbing in my sleep and repeating the words ‘please don’t leave me’. I looked around and saw that it was half an hour away from my final stop and felt a shiver running down my spine and not the pleasant one. I called my cousin Suzanne who lived nearby and asked if she could come get me at the bus station.

Once the bus pulled over and people began getting out, I felt anxious and wanted to get back in the bus and get back to my apartment. Today was not going to be a good me for me. I began trembling, panicking and looking around for Suzanne. Suzanne is three years younger than me and we went to different schools. The place has not changed much since I left. There were just a few new buildings and renovations here and there. I walked down the passage to the exit and spotted my cousin.

“Wow look at you all grown up Ms Jordan Sue Carter.” She said as she approached me. I took off my shades and hugged her. It's been 9 years since I last saw her or anyone in this town, well except of Keera because she often comes to  visit me and we video chat twice every week, although I have not told her that I’ll be coming over. I made a vow to myself years ago that I would never set foot in this place ever in my life. It had become my biggest fear. I could feel a panic attack coming as I approach Suzanne’s car. This place was the reason behind my nightmares.

“So how has the big city been holding you?’’ She asked while loading my luggage into the trunk.

“It’s been good.” I said to her smiling, trying to hide the nervousness in my face.

“Well I can see that and I’m sure someone has been treating you well.” She said winking at me trying to ease my anxiety. I laughed a bit and got in the front seat of the car. I couldn’t comment on what she just said. Hey I still didn't believe that me and James and I were over. Plus she doesn’t know that I was single and almost homeless and what she didn't know wouldn't hurt her right?

“I can see that. You're a red head now?” She said giggling as she started the car and pulled off.

"Yeah. I waned to try something different." I answered as I unconsciously touched my hair.

“Billy is really excited to meet you. He was hoping you would come to our wedding but I guess you couldn’t come.” She said while driving. I have not met her husband and they have been married for three years, I couldn't bear to come to her wedding and other events that took place in town. I literally shut everyone in this town out.

“Yea and I’m sorry. I got held up by something. Not that your wedding was not important. I was in a critical situation.” I said looking down and rationalizing my lies with a valid excuse because on that day I was sitting alone in the apartment watching 50 first dates.

“Hey it’s okay. It’s been 3 years now. It’s all forgotten." She said laughing and I just smiled. I looked out the window to see the town. Looking at all the stores and buildings bought memories and this time good memories. I saw the barber shop my dad use to get his haircut from. The flower shop my mom used to work in and the diner I used to go with Eve and Keera on Friday nights. The other stores I couldn’t recognize. I guess they were new; it’s been 9 years hey.
