"Berry..." Someone whispers my name. I groan but open my eyes, rubbing my hands over my face to try and wake up faster.
"Berry," The unknown person says, louder this time. I take my hands away from my face and freeze when I meet large brown eyes and a face surrounded by soft, dark curls. A smile spreads across her face. God, I've missed her smile so much.
I sit up and rub my eyes again, not believing what I'm seeing. "What-"
She grabs my arms, "Come on, Berry. There's no time." Pulling me up from the makeshift bed on the floor, I follow her through the empty diner. There is no one else around. No Party Poison, no Ghoul, Jet or Kobra.
                              "Where is-"
"Shhh, just follow me." She turns to look at me, smiling wide. But it isn't her usual excited smile that reaches her eyes. No... I don't recognise this one.
She grips my hand harder and pulls me outside of the diner. It's morning, the sun not high enough in the sky to start burning yet. We stop in the car park of the diner. The Tran AM is nowhere to be seen and neither is the bike.
She turns to face me still grinning wildly and I stare back confused. "You missed me?" She asks tilting her head.
My face softens, "Of course I-"
"Well, here I am." She cuts me off again and spreads her arms wide. "And here you are."
"What-" I cut myself off this time at the sound of running footsteps. A Draculoid comes hurtling towards us with bloodstains on his mask and left leg. He stops ten metres away and draws his raygun.
"Are you gonna save me this time?" She's still smiling as she takes my hand in hers. I nod. She laughs lightly and leans in close, bringing her lips to my cheeks in a soft kiss. It's short and sweet and everything I've missed; the familiar tickle of her curly locks on my skin, the feel of her lips and the calming warmth of our entwined hands.
I reach for my raygun but it's not in my belt. I must have left it inside. Sunshine has hers in her hand and I grab for it. She laughs again and throws it away. It lands at the Drac's feet.
"Are you crazy?" I say, completely bewildered by the fact she threw away our only defence. "How are we-" I turn to look back at her but...
She's gone. Disappeared into nothing. Clouds form thick in the sky, blocking out the sun. My hand is cold in the absence of hers.
                              The Draculoid takes his stance.
Fear girls me and I can't move, my feet feeling like they're stuck in cement. Tears prickle in my eyes.
                              It raises the gun.
I brace for the killing shot, closing my eyes and letting the tears falling down my cheeks...
"Berry... it's okay." Someone whispers soothingly and I open my eyes and instinctively bring my hands up, ready to protect myself whoever is there. It's dark and there's no sign of the Drac, but I recognise the silhouette of Kobra next to me, hand on my shoulder. He brings his other hand up to clutch one of mine.
My whole body is clammy with sweat, tears wet my cheeks and my breaths are fast, but I start to calm, focusing on the firm hands comforting me.
"Hey... look at me. Are you okay?" He clicks a lighter and the light from the flame dances across his face, illuminating his brown eyes.
