I unlocked the door and stormed in, calling out for both Alvin and Sophia.
"What's wrong?" Sophia said as she walked downstairs.
"We need to leave, right now!" I yelled, "Get ready, and where is Alvin?"
"I thought he was out with you!" She widened her eyes, and I felt my feet getting weaker, the police are two minutes away from our house and Alvin isn't home?
"Are you sure he is not here?" I questioned, "he was here before I leave!"
"No he is not here, I looked for him in his room but he wasn't there!" she nervously said, I sat on the couch and breathed heavily, my heart was about to stop and I felt restless and weak for the first time in my entire life. he never leave home without me.
"Sophia, get ready!" I mumbled, she nodded and ran upstairs, few minutes and she walked back with small bag and a cap over her head.
"The police will be here any second, go to the backyard, there is a way that leads to the main road!" I demanded, "Go alone? Are you insane?" she shouted
"Let's leave together!" she suggested and I rose up on my feet, "I'm never leaving this house without him!" I said and I meant it, I had no intention to actually leave without him.
"Elyse!" she shouted again, this time even louder and angrier, "just go, and wait for us there, I promise I will get him and follow you!" I said
"You promised!" she pointed her finger at me and ran outside,
It wasn't too long when I heard the aggressive knocks on the front door, and it clearly wasn't Alvin, it was them, the police were here, in front of the house and probably surrounding it by now. I could see the end coming my way but I didn't care, I just wanted him to be safe, please be far away from here, please be safe wherever you are and don't let them catch you again.
"Open the door!" the police man yelled, "Open it before we break it!"
I stood by the backyard's door and waited for them to break the other door, it was that moment when I felt paralyzed and broken, I realize how tough the coming days will be and how the end may be a complete tragedy. I closed my eyes and I heard them getting closer and closer. I felt a hand grabbing my wrist, the grip was tight, too tight, but it was actually also warm, too warm to be them. I felt myself being pulled away, thrown into the warmest and the softest embrace, and I was afraid to open my eyes and see something different than I actually imagine, what if everything I feel now isn't true and my mind is playing games on me?
I slowly lifted my eyelids and locked my eyes with those dark ones, filled with concern and fear. I parted my lips to speak but he was fast to place his index on my lips, stopping me from saying anything "Be quiet!" he whispered, tightening his grip on my waist and peeking at the front door. "Let's go!" he held my hand and dragged me through the backyard. I was still under the shock, not really processing what was happening, I just followed him, wherever he goes, I will go too. Wherever he is, I want to be there too.
I didn't realize how we arrived to the main road, where Sophia was holding her bag and waiting for us.
"Finally! I was worried about you!" she shouted, "Where have you been?"
"are you insane?" Alvin yelled, but not at Sophia. "Do you think it is a brave thing to do? Waiting for them to arrest you?" he grabbed my arms and pulled me closer to him, he was angry, no, beyond angry.
"What were you thinking, huh?" he yelled louder and I honestly lost it too, "How about you tell me where were you?" I yelled back,
"I was worried about you, imagine searching all the house and not finding you there, it weakened me, I couldn't move, I didn't want to move, not without you!" I felt the tears streaming down my face.
"I was searching for you too, I didn't know where you went. I was worried about you for Gods sake. Maybe if you told me I'm going out, things would be different, now!" he shouted
"I searched all around the neighborhood, and you were nowhere to be found, I thought you left me!" his voice cracked at the last sentence.
"I would never leave you!" I spoke, "you are part of me and I can't imagine myself being without you!" I wrapped my arms around his waist and hid my face on his chest, feeling his heartbeats going crazy.
"Don't do it again!" he hugged me tighter and planted a gentle kiss on my head, "I won't!"
"And nobody is worried about me!" Sophia sarcastically said, we literally forgot she was standing there. I chuckled at her statement and pulled away from the hug, "I'm glad you are safe!" I hugged her.
"But we need to leave, they probably just checked the house and didn't find us!" I firmly spoke, Sophia nodded, and Alvin just stood by my side.
She carried her bag and we were about to move but a sudden thing happened and stopped us right on our track. It was a car, big black car blocked our way and prevented us from moving any further.
The car's door slowly opened, revealing a man in two day stubble and a black neat pressed suit, the kind you only see on high priced lawyers and politics. He appeared to be in his mid-forties. His hair was done very nicely, he had some form of oil mixed in to give a short but noticeable wavy form to the black strands. His forehead was almost square, large and imposing, but not laughably though. His black eyeballs analyzed us one by one but mostly Alvin, who was standing before me, hiding me behind his back. I could still steal some glances, he looked a little bit familiar, I'm sure I have seen him somewhere, but I couldn't recall where and when. Alvin, in the other hand, was acting weird, his body seemed to be frozen the moment he saw the man, he was having hard time breathing.
"Get in the car!" he demanded, his voice dry and thick, I was about to speak when we suddenly heard the police siren echoing from not too far distance, "Get in the car!" he nervously shouted this time, to say, he was more stressed and nervous than us, which was a bit odd.
"Let's go!" Sophia said, "we have no time to ask who is he!"
I nodded and pushed Alvin towards the car though I could feel his complete rejection to the idea. We got inside the car and the man drove off fast. Alvin who was sitting in the passenger seat was completely quiet, gazing cluelessly at the window, like he was trying to avoid something, or someone.
"How have you been?" the man uttered, Sophia and I looked at him confusedly, and he took few glances at Alvin, "I'm happy to see you!" he again said, taking me off guard. Does he know Alvin?
"Excuse me, but who are you?" I questioned, he genuinely smiled, his smile was so fond and sweet, and again, I felt like I have seen it before but couldn't tell where!
"I'm Benjamin, Benjamin Arthur Fuller!" he informed, "Alvin's older brother!"
