Deceit took me to this tall, dark house in seemingly, the middle of nowhere. Despite no other houses in sight, it was surrounded by a black fence with dead trees popped all over the land. The house itself was painted a dark gray with black gutters and roofing. All the windows either had their curtains drawn or were boarded. Nothing about the house looked welcoming. It gave me a sensation of a spider crawl down my neck.
Deceit opened the gate and brought me inside. The stairs leading up to the house moaned with the weight we would put on it. I eventually fell behind Deceit, not wanting the both of us to stand on any particular step at once. The gloved man knocked on the door, waiting patiently for someone. I noticed the door mat on the ground. It read in fading cursive: The Dark Sides.
A tall and slender man opened the door. His wicked features rose when he saw Deceit and I. This man was riddled with random patches of dirt on his face and clothes. He had dark brown curly hair with one gray streak in the front. He wore a black prince like suit with a radio active green sash running across his chest. He had a mace resting on his shoulder. Everything about this man made my gut tighten.
"Ah, Remus. Meet our new arrival." Deceit spoke, moving so this...Remus could get a better look at me. His hand ejected out like a rocket, a centipede coming out of his sleeve.
"Welcome home! You may call me, Remus. Or Daddy, if you're lucky." He winked with a snicker. I didn't want to shake his hand, but I did out of politeness and fear of what would happen if I didn't.
"V-Virgil. Nice to meet you." I struggled to say.
"He's Thomas' new sense of Paranoia." Deceit informed him. Remus gave a curious nod, motioning us to come inside. Deceit took the offer, but I was scared. I looked up at Remus. His eye was twitching, as if it was hurting him to smile. I scurried inside.
The house didn't look much better on the inside. The walls were cracking and the floor was missing a few floor boards. The lights were flickering and I kept hearing a clicking sound. Cobwebs hung in every corner. Big and scary spiders housed them. I shivered, the house was freezing. Despite this, however, both Deceit and Remus seemed to immune to it.
"Please, make yourself at home, Virgil. I was just finishing up dinner before you arrived!" Remus said, directing my attention to the steaming pot in the kitchen. I found it odd that this house was capable of having a propane cooker in it. It seemed so modern vs. the house crumbling on top of me.
I looked at their couch. It was extremely old, with stuffing and springs popping out of certain spots. I gave Remus a small, awkward grin as I sat myself upon it. I tensed as I noticed the wet spot I was sitting in. Deceit seemed to see my discomfort, giving me an odd eye. "I-I think your dog peed on your couch." I chuckled.
"We don't have a dog." Deceit stated coldly. My face dropped. I shifted over to the over couch cushion, not wanting to know who's pee...or other bodily function was on the couch.
"Alright boys! Soups up!" Remus hollered. I gladly stood up from my seat, following Deceit over to the round dining table. I watched where Deceit sat, seeing him pat the chair next to him. I did as told, taking a seat in it. I hoped he wasn't setting me up for failure. I'd hate to see what'd happen if I sat in Remus' chair.
Speaking of, the wild man came over with three bowls full of a dark brown soup. He gave one to each of us before sitting down in his chair. Looking inside the soup, it didn't look half bad. "Thank you, Remus." I mumbled, grabbing my spoon.
Deceit and Remus exchanged ad odd look, sending it towards me. I grew weary. Had I done something wrong? "Virgil, there are somethings you're going to have to know about us." Deceit began. "Number one: we are not nice. If you want to 'nice' you can go over to the Light Mind Palace where you'll get RIPPED APART just for being you." Deceit glared into his soup, playing in it with his spoon. "So if you want that, be our guest."
"G-Got it. S-Sorry. M-My bad." I quickly spat out, not daring to make eye contact with any of them. I took my spoon and dipped it into the soup. I put the spoon to my lips. My face must've went white. I couldn't tell what I was tasting but it was some kind of unnatural meat.
"Do you like it, Virge? I call it: Rat and Bull Penis Goop!" Remus giggled with glee, bringing the whole bowl to his lips and chugging it. I quietly pushed my bowl away.
"Number two: We fend for ourselves around here. If you want food, you either make it yourself. Or, suffer through whatever Remus kills and throw it up later." Deceit snarled, getting up from the table and wandering into the kitchen.
"Ah, Dee. That's the nicest thing you've ever said about my cooking!" Remus burped. I wasn't hungry anymore. I didn't want to eat anymore food. I just sat at the table with my arm crossed at my chest. I didn't want to be rude, but then again, I couldn't tell if that was encouraged.
"Come along, Virgil. I'll show you to your room." Deceit said, coming out of the kitchen. I gladly followed as he lead me up the stairs. We passed two doors. One that was yellow with a two headed snake on it and another that was dark green with a tentacle sword on it. At the end of the hall, was a dark purple door with a storm cloud.
"This is your room. It's accustomed to you. So, be weary of your emotions, as it could turn your room upside down if your not careful." With that, Deceit pat me on the back and walked away. I sighed, feeling my stomach rumble. I pushed past it as I walked into my room.
It was the nicest thing I've seen in this house. The walls were purple with band posters covering almost every square inch. There was a nice, fluffy bed with a closet adjacent to it. A mirror was also on the wall next to a desk and empty bookshelf.
I felt so much more at home. I collapsed face first onto my bed. I let today's events wash over me. I was so tired, I didn't even realize it until now. Within minutes, I fell asleep.
