Y/N's POV

It had been a few weeks since the trial, and I had been promoted to a squad captain. It was a great responsibility, and Levi helped me get used to it. I was allowed to pick four soldiers to be in my squad. I asked Grace, Isabel, Bertolt, and a new male recruit who was strong, yet kept to himself. They agreed, and soon it was time to set out on our first expedition since the King's decree. 

In the early morning, we saddled up our horses and lined up at the gate. My horse was right next to Levi's, and my heart was pounding with anticipation. I felt Levi's hand slip into mine, and he squeezed it tightly. He looked straight ahead, strong as ever. "Don't die out there." 

"Same goes for you," I said, squeezing his hand back. 

"I love you Y/N,"He whispered.

"I love you too."

The gate rose and Levi squeezed my hand one last time, and then dropped it.  

From right up front I heard my father yell. "Advance!" 

Everyone responded immediately and we charged into the domain of Wall Maria once again. Every squad began to pan out to cover more territory. 

Levi and I looked at each other one last time before trees blocked our views of each other. 

"Alright everyone! Stay on your guard!" I called back to my team. 

"The next expedition... do you think it'll be the one where we take back Wall Maria?" Grace asked me.

"I don't know. I've overheard Levi and my father speaking about it, but I didn't want to pry," I replied. 

As we rode on, I saw a red flare go off about 500 feet away, probably where Levi's team was. It was hardly any time at all before they fired a green flare, signaling that they had killed the titan.

We continued our ride. After a few hours, everyone stopped to discuss our next move. Levi and I saw each other, and he looked relieved. 

The Commander stood in front of us and spoke.

"So far we have not had any casualties. I'd like to keep it that way. Everyone keep your guards up and look out for one another. That is all," he stated, finishing with a salute.

"Yes sir!"

It had been about a hour since we had stopped at the ruins of a village. Everything seemed normal, just a few red flares here and there. But the peace didn't last forever. It happened so fast. Before we knew it, black and purple flares were in the air surrounding us. I had never felt so smothered in my life. 

"Stay close everyone!" I shouted, tightening my grip on the reins. 

Out of nowhere, a titan of the 8 meter class emerged, running towards us with alarming speed. 

"Isabel!" I yelled.

"Right!" She immediately fired a black flare in the air.

As the titan got closer, I used my ODM gear to latch onto a tree, after telling my team I'd take care of it. I landed there and released the tension, jumping off the tree. I latched it onto the back of the titan's head and my body was propelled towards it. Just before I reached it, another titan had shown up, and before I could realize it, I was flying towards the ground. 

The new titan had grabbed the wires and pulled them down. Somehow, Bertolt was able to run my horse over and I landed on top of it. I quickly got on properly and attempted to pass the titans. Bertolt was able to get away, but I felt a huge hand wrap around my body and pull me into the air.

The 8 meter titan began pulling me towards its mouth and I screamed for help, unsure if I could escape. I grasped at my blades and used all of my strength to slice my way out of its hand. I didn't realize, however, that my ODM gear had broken. I began falling to the ground, desperately trying to latch onto something.

Right before I hit the ground, someone swooped in and caught me, and carried me to a tree.
