Olivia's POV:

"These are your math notes?" I ask Lydia as Kira and I read the various numbers and letters mixed together in the document she shared with me from my laptop.

"No wonder Malia's failing." Allison muttered, peering her head to get a better look at Lydia's laptop.

The four of us were sharing a table in the classroom due to the fact we were 'working on our science project' our teacher assigned to us.

"Some of them are my notes. The rest, I think, might actually be a code." Lydia says and I scroll down the document, watching as dozens of rows filled with numbers and letters appear.

"But you don't remember writing it?" Kira tilted her head in confusion.

"Not in the slightest," She looks up from the laptop to look at the three of us. "but considering my drawing of a tree led us to the Nemeton, I should probably figure out what it means before it tries to kill us."

"Maybe it's like the enigma code the Allies used." Kira suggested. "Remember my dad was a World War II buff? And my mom was, well...in it."

"When I was in France, my dad was telling me about the past Argent families around the 1860s using some sort of code called the Vigenère Cipher." Allison highlights some of the rows. "Maybe it could be that."

Lydia nods her head in agreement. "I've heard of that before. It encrypts the alphabetic text with different types of ciphers, depending on the letters of a keyword."

"How do you crack it?" I question, not knowing what the hell they were talking about.

She shrugged. "With a key."

A key, coincidentally, dangles in front of Lydia's face which causes me to turn from my seat, meeting a stern look of Lydia's mom as she eyed her daughter.

"Remember the rules. No more than seven people allowed in the lake house." She looked around cautiously. "Stay out of the wine." She whispered before returning to her normal tone. "And if anything gets broken, it's getting added to your credit card debt."

She shrugged. "Fine." Lydia reaches for the keys, but her mom pulls the keys away before she could.
