~The Governor's Flashback-10 years ago~

Her beautiful hair flowed in the wind like a river as we sat on the hill. The sunset was that pretty shade of orangish-pink that she loved. I knew everything about her, and everything had gone to plan as I wanted it to be. I had waited for many years for Rose. I had watched her everyday as she slept, cooked dinner, and went to church. I followed her and finally, here she was. Right in front my very own eyes.

I smiled at her and waited for the perfect moment. Right when the sun was gone, I would kiss her. I wasn't nervous at all. I had prepared for this for a love time. I even watched how she liked to kiss when she was with her pathetic boyfriend, Richard. But I was going to get Rose, I had to. This kiss was the most powerful thing in the world: the love of the two most powerful people in the world.

Now, Rose may not about her gift, but I certainly do. Everyone apart of The SFGY Club, which stands for The School For Gifted Youngsters, knew about Rose. In fact, the prophecy states that one day, the two most powerful youngsters in the universe, a boy and a girl, would share a kiss that was so powerful, it could destroy humankind. I was going to show everyone that I was that boy. There was only one person in my way: Richard.

Richard doesn't have a gift or a power, but he could stop the powerful kiss that Rose and I were about to have. Even if he did have a power, he couldn't join SFGY because I had the last spot in the club. There is nothing he can do now! Rose smiled and suddenly, the sun sunk into the ground, and I knew it was my chance. Now, I don't necessarily love Rose, I just want the power.

I leaned in to kiss her, and she leaned in too. I closed my eyes just before our lips touched, but shot them open when I didn't feel her lips. Rose was gone. Out of thin air.

I gasped and looked around me to find a note. I picked the note off the grass and started reading it. The note said:

Dear Charles,

I am so sorry that the prophecy was not for you. I just got an invitation to join The SFGY Club, in your place. Yes, you are kicked out of SFGY. And by the way, Rose and I just shared a very powerful kiss. In fact, it was me! Rose and I are the most powerful people in the world. Again, I am so sorry about the bad news. Good day!

Sincerely,

Richard

I clutched the paper in my hands tightly, not comprehending what I just read. Tears filled my eyes and made my vision blurry. I dropped the paper and fell to the ground. "No, Charles. It's not true...it's not true.."

I walked around the town, for I no longer had a home. I sat down somewhere comfortable and sobbed. My whole life was dedicated to this moment, but it was all ruined now. All because of that Richard.

"You're gonna pay Richard." I whispered. "Everyone you love will die. And you're gonna die a very, painful death..."

~Richard's POV~

"I'm sorry, Alex." I whispered to my beautiful sleeping daughter.

I sighed as I got out of the car, locking the doors and hoping that Alex was safe alone in the abandoned city. I walked towards the grey building and slowly opened the door to prepare for what was inside.

Nothing. No one.

I walked inside cautiously and entered a dim room. I almost jumped behind me in fear when I saw Charles sitting in the chair, asleep thankfully.

I walked out and looked around. Something isn't right, I thought.

His workers--more like slaves--weren't here. Derek wasn't here, but he was supposed to.
