The next morning, I woke up and decided I would call Derek again. He was the person who took my mind off of Alyssa, off of everything. He said to meet him at the cabin.
On my way to the cabin, I walked past the abandoned city and thought about it. Why didn't the city just take it down to rubble and build something else there?
I sighed and headed towards the forest. It was quiet and peaceful.
Then I entered the cabin.
Derek was no where in sight.
"Derek?" I whispered. Maybe he isn't here on time. I sat in the dark cabin and murmured, "Jeez, we need some windows." After about an hour of waiting, I called him. Maybe he forgot.
No answer.
Then I heard a creaking noise at the end if the dark, narrow hallway. I furrowed my brows. It isn't Alyssa, this place is safe from her. Oh, I thought. Derek is playing a trick on me! He is probably is hiding somewhere and ready to scare me. "Derek, I swear to god, I'm gonna kick your butt when y-" I stopped. I had nothing to say. All I could do was scream.
But I didn't scream. I didn't cry. I had been through too much to cry.
"Derek? Oh god, no, please Derek please!" I half-whispered half-yelled.
Derek was tied in a cage. It was really hard to see through the darkness, but I thought I saw my mother too.
Oh, and I almost forgot. Alyssa was there.
I could do nothing as Alyssa- with her head to the side and her jaw opened so wide it was unhumanly possible- walked toward me.
Anger flushed in my chest.
I was trapped. My whole stupid life was ruined. This was not a nightmare, no matter how much I wanted this to be.
I was trapped in a life where I can't change anything.
I was trapped in my mind where you are always running.
I was trapped and I couldn't believe the thought that I would never be safe again.
I was trapped.
My eyes filled with tears as Alyssa walked toward me. Her blank, deformed expression made me scream for my life.
Then all of a sudden, I jumped off the bed and picked up a metal bar that was lying on the ground. I swung it at her head, which saved me a few minutes.
I knew what I had to do. I would have to take her to the sunlight. So I ran outside, the sun blinding my eyes, and Alyssa followed me. She yelped as the light touched her skin, burning her until she was nothing but ashes.
I stopped her for now, but she would return soon.
I saw Derek behind me, watching in amazement. I blushed, but I hoped he didn't see.
I waved at him. "Derek?" I said. His eyes opened wide and he grabbed my shoulders. At first I was scared, because I thought he was possessed or something and was going to kill me, but then he pulled me close and hugged me tightly.
I smiled and pulled away from him. "What happened?" He said.
"Alyssa came for me. She tied you and my mom in a cage, and tried to kill me." I said. "But then, for the first time, I acted upon it. I slammed a metal bar into her head and burned her to ashes." I pointed at her ashes outside.
"Woah..." He said in amazement, "I never thought the girl I had known for years could be capable of doing that."
I smiled.
"Thanks." I said.
