"Is the fucking hot sign on?!" Kyle yelled from the backseat. Well, more like from the front seat the way he claymores over the middle console to look over our shoulders and out the window.

I hadn't intended on Kyle getting in the car with us. I thought that he'd driven, but he'd actually paid for an Uber. He turned down my offer to drop him off at his house at first, insisting that his Dom would pay him back. Now, i thought about letting him go, but I knew that he was between jobs at the moment. Even if his Dom had a stable job, I knew how hard it was to accept money from anyone, but he could definitely accept a ride from me.

But I was seriously rethinking my decision when he didn't quiet down and instead yelled again, "It is on!"

Gigi didn't seem to bothered by the distraction, the tapping at her phone screen staying constant throughout the interaction. I, for one, was distracted like a motherfucker. I didn't even know what he was talking about.

"Kyle, what are you yelling about?!" I yelled back. Maybe if I yelled back, he would realize how loud he was being.

"The fucking hot sign Ace! Look!" Guess not. He pointed at one of the buildings far in the distance.

I wasn't going to understand and I didn't have the patience to try and figure it out. I leaned over to look at my best friend who was now taking over the role of interpreter. "Gigi, help please."

"There's a Krispy Kreme up here on the corner. It's a donut shop and there's a neon red sign on the side of it that tells you whether or not they have hot glazed donuts." She didn't look up even once.

I nodded. I'd never had them before. "Oh...okay. Are they any good?" Out of the rear view mirror, I could see that Kyle thought that I'd grown a third head. I took that as an indication that we absolutely had to stop there, so I started changing lanes so that I could turn in.

"You've never had Krispy Kreme before?! What kind of fucked up childhood did you have?!"

Wow.

Gigi finally looked up from her phone. "Do you just go around saying that to everyone you meet?" She was glaring at him and we were now stopped in the parking lot of the Krispy Kreme.

Kyle sat back, finally calming down. "No, I didn't mean- I just was saying-" He sighed, collecting his words before looking at me. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean it the way that it came out."

I shrugged it off. "I know. It's fine."

"I mean it's not fine, but Ace is a nice guy, so..." She opened the car door and stepped out, closing the door pretty hard behind her. Sometimes, I think she forgets that she's said worse things to me, even if they were in my best interests.

But that's the whole point isn't it? She could say those things because she was close to me and had known me for years. Kyle hadn't.

"I've got to get on her good side huh?"

I laughed. "Good luck with that. She's a Scorpio. She'll either be over it in the next five minutes or the next five centuries."

"Jeez, now I'm scared to go in with her."

"Well, I've got to stay in here with my new kitty, so I can't help you there." I reached through the middle to stroke it's fur through the cage. He looked so peaceful.

"I mean, I could stay while you go." Oh hell no.

"I've never been here before. You've got to go get me the goods that got you so excited in the first place." I really just didn't want him alone with my cat. "I promise she won't kill you, at least not in public. She fears jail more than she likes to admit. Unlike the rest of us, she's actually straight."
