"Are you positive this won't be getting out?" Aiden asked for the 28th time.
"Absolutely, we'll make sure that you don't have to worry about anything. The producers won't find out about you." The officer turned to Sophie. "Your testimony should be enough to put him behind bars for a long, long time. Unfortunately, that will mean that you going on public record." Then he turned to me. "Even though you aren't on public record, you might want to put some makeup on your neck or they'll definitely ask questions."
I nodded. I knew a lot about makeup and I knew exactly what to use to make sure that even when I was dripping with sweat, no one could see my bruises.
"Thank you officer. We really appreciate you." Aiden walked closer so that he could see him out the front door and I scooted closer to Sophie, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. She looked like she was trying to hold back tears.
"It's gonna be okay Sophie." I assured her. I knew it would be. We would work it out. For my friends, I would always work it out. "Maybe they won't care."
She nodded quickly. "They will, but that's okay." She tilted her head to rest it on my shoulder. "I want to tell them on my own. I don't want them to find out."
I was slightly taken aback at that. The Sophie I knew would have waited this out easily, not taken it head on. "You want me to go with you to talk to them?"
She shook her head almost violently. "No, no, no. You've done more than enough." She shrugged from underneath me and I let my hand fall. "I'm so sorry I even got you in this mess. I just didn't know who to call and you-"
"Sophie I would do it over again in a heartbeat." Stabbing and all. Even though I never wanted to feel that fight or flight feeling in my stomach ever again. It was horrifying, but I didn't have to tell her all that. She knew.
"I wanted to go to the end with you."
I nodded. "That's what I wanted too. It would've been fun to see the student surpass the master."
She giggled. "Oh please, you would've won easily. They love you on that damn show. Have you seen the way Twitter has been blowing up?"
"I don't have social media Sophie."
She rolled her eyes. "I forgot you were a hermit."
"I'm not a hermit. I just don't see the need for it."
She scoffed. "Yeah, well when you're sitting in this fancy house getting fucked on every piece of furniture in sight," She turned up her nose at the sight of the couch we were sitting on for dramatic effect. "I'm sure you wouldn't see the point."
"Sophie, shut the hell up!" I threw one of the throw pillows at her but she ducked and it landed on the floor just barely missing Cookie, who jumped out of the way gracefully. "I wouldn't even know what to do."
"I don't know, maybe take selfies, pictures of places you go, pictures with fans?"
"Okay, one, why am I taking pictures of myself? I can look in a mirror. Two, take pictures of what? The grocery store? Three, I've yet to se one person who even knows who I am. And I am perfectly fine with that." I added. I definitely was not putting a swarm of adoring fans on my wishlist. If they were even out there, that is.
"Okay, one, it's not for you, it's for your fans. Two, if you would leave this house for more than just food and a new place to have sex, you would see more of the world and the fact that you actually have fans out there. And 3, refer to point two!" She shoved my shoulder and I laughed. She was becoming more sassy.
