Tyson P.O.V.The house had an eerie cloud about it. There were no lights on that I could see and no sign of movement. The sun was beginning to set and even with the beautiful sight of the horizon, the house still made me uncomfortable. The doorbell looked like it hadn't been touched in a long time, but I tried it anyway so as not bring about suspicion. I pressed my ear to the door immediately afterward and didn't hear any ringing, so I rapped on the wood of the door a few times before taking a step back. The path of least resistance would be to pretend that everything was normal and not to break into the house.
But after two minutes of no movement, I wasn't about to stick around and keep knocking on the door.
I walked back to my car and drove away, just in case Jason was watching. I wanted him to think that I was leaving and that he was in the clear. I needed him comfortable to catch him off guard.
I circled the block, this time parking on the street that was adjacent to the side of the house and not the front. Luckily, the house wasn't gated. Bad thing was, it sat on a basement, which meant the only back door to the house led directly into the basement. If I was Jason trying to harm Ace, I would take him down there and that presented an issue.
If I were to try and sneak into the back door, there was a high possibility that Jason would either see me or hear me. If I were to try and bust the door down quickly, he would definitely hear me and since I didn't have Ace's exact location, I didn't want to risk him being able to hurt Ace while I chased him down.
So I circled the house, staying low under the windows and hoping he wasn't at an advantage point on the upper floors where he could see me. I eventually found the safest and easiest access to the inside of the house to be a side window on the first floor. I don't know why this particular window wasn't locked, but I didn't question my luck. The window made some noise being lifted, but hopefully not too much.
It led directly into a bathroom and as I climbed inside to step onto the floor, the gun tucked into my back started to feel a bit heavier. The fear in jobs like mine never totally went away, they only become more manageable.
The house was just as quit inside as it was on the outside, supporting my idea that no one was on the upper levels, but I held my gun in my hands just in case. You could never be too careful, especially not with people like Jason.
I remember when Aiden first hired me. It was a week and a half after Jason had started harassing him. This city didn't have the police force that it needed and in order to get things done, you had to do their job for them. You had to bring in the suspects, bring them the evidence, and almost damn near be the judge in order for them to do right. Otherwise, they "just didn't have the manpower".
Pathetic.
But it was the reason men like me had jobs.
And the reason people without as much money as Aiden didn't receive justice.
And even with money, Aiden was struggling.
I had done my research on Jason. Almost everything that Aiden had initially told me about him ended up being a lie. He told Aiden that he grew up with a rich family and his parents had died and left him nothing, among other tales. When I heard this, I immediately got someone to investigate all of these things. He actually grew up in the foster system and his adoptive family, while not rich, was very loving and was very much still alive. He had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 14. He had just abandoned them when he turned 18, accusing them of trying to poison him by feeding him pills, pills that he needed to take. After years of trying to keep in touch, they had simply let him be, not knowing where he ended up.
