When MJ woke up and learnt that there had been another 'animal attack' beside Vicki that night, she was not happy. Vampires needed to be put in their place sometimes, and it seemed like she might have to be the one to do it. Only problem, the time of death being given matched up with around when she met that other vampire outside The Grill, meaning it was Stefan, or there was another vampire wandering around – or the time of death was a lie.

That option wasn't completely unreasonable given that they were claiming it to be an animal attack, but she didn't want to accidentally challenge the wrong vampire.

"You sound like you're preparing for a fight you don't need to start," her mother was leaning against the kitchen counter.

MJ frowned, "Am I supposed to sit back and watch as the reports pile up and up?"

"You're seventeen," Her mum reminded her, "You're supposed to think about school, and friends, not how to kill a vampire,"

"I'm seventeen, but I'm also a witch," MJ smiled innocently at her.

Her mother sighed, looking around the place.

"You haven't drunk your tea yet."

MJ shrugged, quickly picking up the teacup from the counter and downing it. It was a little bit cold, but she didn't care, she was drinking it to top her magic up, not for the taste.

"You still haven't fully unpacked," her mum motioned to a few cardboard boxes in the corner of the room.

"I didn't summon you to judge me,"

"It's my duty as your mother to annoy you through stating things you already know."

"Ha-ha,"

"Get to school, you're running late,"

"I noticed!"

MJ snapped her fingers, a shift in the air, and her mother was gone. She picked up her necklace from the tabletop and clipped it on, then she grabbed her bag and headed out the front door.

MJ had had history first, and thankfully Mr Tanner wasn't trying to get shown up again, he was actually teaching the class about a comet the town was going to be celebrating in a day's time. Stefan and Elena had been called out for staring at each other, which MJ found somewhat amusing, but she was paying more attention to Matt. He'd rushed in late and clearly couldn't focus. She hadn't really expected to see him at school.

After class, Elena and Stefan practically vanished and Matt caught her arm.

"You got a class now?"

"Nah, a free,"

"Eh, good,"

They headed out of the High School doors to take a bit of a walk.

"The doctor said that whatever you put on Vicki had stopped her losing any more blood, and stopped her from getting an infection, and, I don't, I don't really know how to thank you,"

"Don't even worry about it," MJ waved a hand in the air, "I'm just happy she's okay,"

"But really, MJ, I – I feel like I should do something,"

"Honestly, you don't need to do anything –"

"Matt!" Elena came jogging towards them.

"Hey, Elena,"

"You didn't text anyone last night, is Vicki okay?"

"They're keeping her overnight, but she should be able to come home tomorrow."

"That's good news."

"Yeah."

Elena paused and looked at MJ, who just gave her a half-wave in response.
