JUNE 2010

"Hello, Caroline Forbes," Elliot said dramatically from behind the camera, "I have borrowed Mira Jung's special recording device while she's distracted. Do you wanna talk to our future audience about what we're doing?"

Caroline had wide eyes, slightly messy hair, and the pair of them were standing on a beach.

She also looked slightly stressed.

"We – we are in Florida?" She managed.

Elliot laughed, "Good start Miss Mystic."

That woke Caroline up, "And MJ and Tyler are five-year-olds."

"Miss Caroline here is referring to those two hooligans."

The camera moved and zoomed onto two heaps in the sand.

They had been racing up the beach, but Tyler had gotten too much of a lead for MJ's liking, so she'd caused him to trip. He'd then grabbed her ankle as she passed to pull her down too. Instead of getting back up to keep running, they were chucking damp sand at each other in between making sand angles.

The camera went back to an unamused Caroline, "We were camping on the beach."

Pause.

"We've been here for two and a half days," She shook her head, "They've been like this for two and a half days."

"It is such an interesting phenomenon," Elliot spoke like he was narrating a nature documentary, "Seeing how the girl most likely to be valedictorian has lost all her brain cells after being outside for an extended period of time."

MJ started to scream as a wave suddenly rushed over her and Tyler.

That caused Caroline to start laughing.

MJ sat up, spluttering, but laughing too, running her hands through her now wet turquoise hair, putting her arms to the sky and cheering, "WOOOO!!"

MJ noticed Elliot filming.

"Get in here, Care!" She yelled, managing to stand up as another wave crashed into a dazed Tyler.

They weren't in deep, the only reason the water had managed to hit them was because the pair had been lying down and because they hadn't been paying attention. The feel of the ocean wrapping around her ankles started something in MJ. Her clothes were sandy and soaked, her arms catching drops as she stretched them out and spun in the afternoon sunlight.

"No way!" Caroline shook her head, throwing Tyler a towel as he ran in.

"Yes, way! I want everyone in the ocean."

"We're in clothes."

"I don't care," MJ closed her eyes and leaned her head back, "Woooooo!"

"What are you doing?" Elliot yelled.

She ran further into the sea, her shorts sticking to her legs, the handkerchief tying the top part of her hair up flip-flopping around as the white parts of her shirt turned see-through. Once she was far enough in, she dived down, clearing herself of the sand, and jumping up, flipping her shorter hair back to smile at them.

"Come on!"

"No way!" Caroline protested.

MJ jumped with a wave, letting it wash her back to the shore, then padding up the sand towards them, dripping.

"Come on."

"Nope."

"Caroline."

"You're not getting me to swim in my clothes."
