Chapter 7- Really? Red again?
Clary POV
After making our way around the corner, I decide it would be best for my dignity if I walked alone. Slightly pushing myself away from Jace, I tell him that I can walk. He looks at me for a long moment, obviously debating whether to put me down or not. I'm so close to him that I can feel his warm breath tickling my chin, that I can see the crinkle between his furrowing brows.
"It's okay, Jace," Alec speaks up, yanking me out of my trance. "Put her down."
Jace takes a deep breath, before placing me gently on the floor, his eyes not leaving my own. Alec coughs awkwardly and I look at the floor; I could feel my face flushing pink. Jace laughs the most beautiful light-hearted laugh and winks at me.
I turn and begin to make my way up the hallway when I stumble. I feel strong arms catch me before I fall onto my face.
"Careful, Red," Jace warns as I turn to look at his face.
"Really? 'Red' again? What is it with you guys?" I groan, using Jace's hand to balance.
"You called her a nickname?" Jace turns to Alec, confusion written all over his face.
"Yeah?" Alec says it as more of a question than an answer and suddenly finds the floor interesting, while blushing madly.
Suspiciously, Jace looks at Alec, but shrugs it off and turns his attention back to me.
"Come on, Red," Jace sighs, snaking his arm around my waist. "Let's get you to the nurse."
"Really Jace?" Alec questioned. I turned slowly to look up at Alec, who was looking at Jace as if he was stupid.
"Yes," Jace says rather abruptly. "Why is something wrong?"
Alec sends Jace a look as if to say 'go for it'.
"Alec, but what if she's not a..." Jace says glancing at me, and then raises his eyebrows at Alec.
"If I'm not a what?" I ask, looking to Jace for answers.
"She most likely is," Alec demands, ignoring my question.
"But what if she only has the Sight? You could kill her," Jace hisses at Alec, still not letting go of my waist.
"I'm right here you know," I protest. "What do you mean the sight? And how could he kill me?" There are so many questions in my head right now, none of which being answered.
Alec sighs, and looks at me in irritation. "Jace, even if-"
"No," Jace says sternly, so much power radiating from the word that Alec instantly closes his mouth and doesn't say another word for a moment.
Jace readjusts his arms around my waist and places my arm around his neck. "Besides, they don't work for concussions, which she most likely has."
Alec doesn't say anything, but leads the way to the nurse. Sensing the negative mood, I don't say anything but go along with the silence, ignoring the questions pressing to the front of my mind.
