Chapter 24- Alec has something to say.

Isabelle Lightwood POV

"Alec," I demand, "where is he?"

I was manically pacing in the library, feet moving as rapidly as the thoughts zooming around my head. My hair cascades over my shoulder as I turn to face my older brother who is slumped into an armchair, his raven black hair falling into his eyes. He looks up from his book and his eyes- like stolen discs of the clearest Californian sky- try to wash a stream of serenity over me.

"Isabelle, Jace has probably just gone off with some girl," Alec soothes, although his face portrays an emotion besides calmness: fear.
"Are you sure you don't feel anything?" I ask, moving to sit on the arm of the ancient leather chair beside my brother. "I mean-"

"My rune," Alec finishes. "It feels normal Isabelle; I would tell you if I felt something."

"Okay," I agree, nodding. "I'm okay. Jace will be back soon. He always goes wandering about: he'll be fine." I take a deep breath and swish my hair behind my back. "I'll go make us some breakfast," I say jumping too my feet.

"Let me help you with that, Isabelle," Alec insists immediately. Nobody appreciates my cooking!

In the kitchen, the glorious sunlight streams through the windows, brightening up the glum atmosphere. The leaves dance elegantly in the singing wind. Swinging lonely in the middle of the spacious room is an electric blue set of glass wind chimes which sing in harmony with the morning birds. But behind all of that, of course, are the roaring engines, frustrated horns and the angry people cursing at each other on the streets of New York. I run the hot tap and begin to wash up the dishes from breakfast.

"Alec, could you drop me off at-" the sound of a plate smashing cuts me off. I spin around to see Alec lying on the floor writhing in pain, pieces of shattered china surrounding him. "Alec!" I shout. I fly to his side and grab a hold of his hand, squeezing it slightly. "Alec, what's wrong? What's going on?" I look in all of my pockets to find my stele but to no avail. "Mom! Help please," I scream.

Instantly, my mother rushes into the room asking, "Isabelle, what's wrong?"

"It's Alec," I explain immediately. "Give me your stele."

My mother, Mayrse, kneels by my side. "What on earth has happened?" she asks in a motherly tone, while quickly passing me her stele.

"I don't know," I say back, frustrated. Meanwhile, my big brother is violently shaking in front of me. My mother holds Alec's arm still so that I can draw two runes onto his skin: a healing iratze and a calming rune, but no change has occurred. "It's not working," I point out, frustrated.

"Isabelle, calm yourself down," my mother instructs. "Go and call Magnus and get him here right away." Wasting no time at all, I jump to my feet and begin to run to the nearest telephone. But, before I reach the door, Alec's strangled screams come to a halt and I pause.

"Isabelle," he forces out, making me turn back around to face him.

Another voice suddenly takes over that of my brother's, "Meet me in a week at the place where everything began," echoes the grumbling voice. "Come and find your beloved brother, where love became forbidden and enemies became family." Alec cries out in agony and begins to thrash about on the ground.

"Alec!" I exclaim, just about to run to my brother's side.

"Izzy; call Magnus," my mother repeats, holding her hand out to stop me from running to Alec. But when I just stand there (watching my brother) she adds, "Now." I turn and sprint into the library, in which I had left my cell phone, and ring the high warlock of Brooklyn; Magnus Bane.

Sorry i haven't updated in two months, I've had a pile of coursework to do for Performing Arts. It's really important because it goes toward my GCSE in a couple of years, so I've been focused on that.

Thank you to Arya for commenting on my last chapter!

I hope to update the next chapter real soon, so until then I'm signing out x
