Chapter 16- My Sinister Sibling.

Clary POV

The wicked figure's hat drifts past me, bobbing up and down on the rushing river. The menacing figure releases his dark cloak from around his neck and I watch as it flutters away in the wind: a butterfly of death. The sinister figure slowly looks at me- I try to turn and run, but my feet are stuck to the ground.

"Sister, do not be afraid," but although the body is Sebastian's, the voice belongs to Jace. "Come with us."

Another figure approaches: Jace. But when he opens his mouth to speak, it is Sebastian's voice I hear, "Do not try to fight us, Clary."

"Cut one and the other will bleed," Sebastian continues.

"Kill one and the other will die," Jace finishes. "You see, sister, Sebastian and I are tied to each other. Lilith's mark connects us." I notice matching black rune placed over the boys' hearts that have a silver line crossing through them, disfiguring them.

Instinctively, my hand flies to my belt where, surprisingly, a dagger is tucked away. I slide the dagger out of my belt and notice that it is decorated with bird shapes- the Herondale dagger.

Suddenly, a strong hand grabs a hold of my skinny wrist. "Jace," I breathe. I try to will myself to stab him, therefore killing Sebastian for good- but it would also kill Jace.

I can't do it.

Just one look into his golden orbs and my heart melts like butter on a warm summer's day. "Jace," I repeat, begging him this time. Begging him to come back to me: to the Jace I love.

"Clarissa, think about what you are doing," Jace warns, using Sebastian's voice.

A short scene appears in my mind of Luke throwing acid onto a rune on a corpse-like man. The corpse reacts to the burning acid but then relaxes and closes his eyes.

"I am thinking," I reply firmly. "I'm thinking about how I want you dead." In one quick-as-light movement, I slice the bagger through the rune on Jace's chest- disfiguring the rune.

Jace holds his hands to his heart and pulls them away, thick with blood. I glance over at Sebastian who is doing the exact same movement sequence as Jace.

"Clary, it's me," Jace says; but this time it is Jace, body and voice. "Really me."

"Jace," I grin before he places his hands on my cheeks and kisses me passionately; our lips fitting together like a key into a lock.

"I love you," Jace says in-between kisses. At some point he pushes me away, but holds onto my shoulders at an arm's length. "Clary, I don't have much time- the rune's power will take me over again soon."

I begin to interrupt, but he shoves his hand over my mouth.

"Let me talk," he instructs. "You have to run; keep going and try to find Alec and Isabelle. Clary, I love you. But remember this: whatever I do next isn't me, and I hope that you can forgive me." He crashes his lips to mine one last time before running back up the hill towards Sebastian.

"Welcome back, brother," Sebastian greets (in Jace's voice). Jace just nods and moves to stand beside him.

"Jace, please," I beg. "I know you're in there. This boy... this murderer is not you."

"Clary," Jace holds his hand up, "don't." "But Jace," I protest. "You can't just-"

"Clary," Jace interrupts. "I told you to go."

"'The love that moves the sun and all the other stars', remember?" I quote Jace. "I'm not going anywhere without you."

"Don't be foolish, Clary," Jace growls. "Go home."

"No chance," I reply stubbornly.

"Then you leave us no choice," Sebastian says, frowning slightly. "Shoot."

Out of the corner of my eye, I see a silver glint zooming towards me. I duck just before it hits me.

However, I feel an agonising stab in my lower back and fall into a heap on the floor.

A/N

Sorry i'm a couple days late with the update but I've had over 15 pieces of homewpork (many of which were projects) and I decided to spend my week reading rather than doing my homework and therefore, I stupidly left it all to be done at the weekend. I'm not proud of this chapter, but I hope you guys'll enjoy it and begin to vote and comment on my story more x

Anyway for now, I'm signing out.
