Tis the Season

So it's officially the holiday season!

If you ask major retailers, it has been since November 2nd, but I like to ease into the holidays. Because otherwise, I get incredibly overwhelmed and feel as though I might spontaneously combust.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the holidays. Food and gifts and family and food-it's a recipe for happiness. But there are other components that really grind my gears.

For instance, holiday shopping.

I. Hate. Shopping.

Okay, well, that's not entirely true. I don't mind like Target or Academy or some small store, but if you try to get me to step foot in a mall between Black Friday and December 24, I will personally make sure you die a slow and painful death.

There are just so many crazy people and it's expensive and I don't really like spending money and it gives me anxiety.

Then there's these tests from hell also known as semester finals.

Blegh... I can't explain to you how much I hate finals.

I especially don't like it when we haven't learned much of anything for a semester and then the teacher is like "hey kids here's a final over two chapters and a bunch of random crap you actually DO need to know! Hope you fail!"

That is NOT okay.

And the time is super inconvenient too. Like my finals are the week before Christmas. What a great way to get in the spirit.

Another thing about the holidays that really annoys me is having to guess what people want.

Like don't tell me "oh don't get me anything all I want is your affection and appreciation" cause honey I will gladly give you that, I mean that's free!

But if you tell me that and then get mad at me for getting you a gift of monetary value, I will flip.

IF YOU WANT SOMETHING, TELL ME, AND I WILL TRY TO GET IT OKAY.

And then there are some people that you know you need to get something for, but you have no idea what to get without it being completely odd.

(^^my main situation right now)

Additionally, there are some Christmas songs that make me want to cut my ears off and feed them to wolves.

Like I'm pretty cool with most Christmas music. I like Christmas music most of the time.

But if I hear one more rendition of Santa Baby, Frosty the Snowman, or Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer, I will set whatever device emitting the horrible sounds on fire.

And anyway, all of this stuff isn't what the holidays are really about. For me, they're about family, friends, and my faith as a Christian. For someone else, they could be about something totally different. But all the crappy things aside, the holidays are a great time to get together with family and to realize how lucky we are to have what we have.
