I think this is one thing that all of humanity can agree upon:
Sunburns suck.
They're painful, unattractive, and have long-term effects that I don't even want to know about.
But here's the thing: I don't usually get sunburned.
Save for this year.
My summer of sunburning started at the school track meet in March.
Then another track meet in the middle of April.
Then at a marathon at the end of April.
Then while mowing the grass two weeks ago.
Sunburns are just plain terrible. Your skin gets bright red, and you can't rub anything against it or it erupts into a flame of white-hot pain from the bellows of the Netherworld.
And then there's the oh-so-attractive tan lines one receives from a sunburn.
I have a running short tan line. Therefore, when I wear a swimsuit, you can see the very upper part of my legs is where my running shorts fall because it is bleach white. Joy.
But if you get sunburned in a swimsuit that ties around the neck, well.... That's probably the worst.
I realize that sunburns can be prevented with the miracle of humanity called sunscreen.
But I wear sunscreen! And I still get sunburned.
There's some terrible places to be sunburned, too. Here's my list from past experiences:
#6. Legs
#5. Back
#4. Arms
#3. Feet
#2. Shoulders
#1. Face
Let me explain a little bit.
Getting sunburned on your legs sucks, but you can deal. Just slather on the Aloe Vera and you're good to go.
Your back is a bit different. It hurts like crazy, and it's in that impossible to reach place for the Aloe Vera. Also, when it comes time for it to peel, there's no way you can peel the dead skin.
Arm sunburns are pretty bad, but not This-is-a-sunburn-from-the-spawn-of-Heck. It's hard to do stuff when you have a painful sunburn on your arms, but as long as you don't rub a bunch of crap against them, you'll be all right.
I have gotten sunburned on my feet.
It is not. Fun.
It's impossible to wear socks, but if you try to wear sandals, people give you ridiculous looks like "You got sunburned on your feet? Really?" So put sunscreen on your feet!
Shoulder sunburns are horrible. They're unattractive in many ways, and they hurt like crazy. It's impossible for you to actually move your shoulders. Then you get in the shower, which just makes it worst.
Lastly, the worst spot to get a sunburn, is on your face.
This is the worst because there is literally no hiding it. It gets irritated with makeup. But you don't want to clog your pores with Aloe Vera. So you just leave it. But it hurts horribly. And if your face starts peeling, you get tons of comments such as "Your face is peeling." "Did you get sunburned?" "You got a little something... Oh."
Yeah.
Sunburns are terrible.
