This Song is Popular, So We Will Play It Repeatedly.

RADIO STATIONS.

WHY?!

There seems to be this idea that when a song gets really popular, (and I mean #1 for five weeks in a row, everyone loves it, you don't know anyone without it on their iPod popular) the song must be played every five minutes or else people will complain it's not played enough.

That just doesn't make sense.

Take, for example, Stay With Me by Sam Smith. I used to LOVE this song. I heard it once on my iTunes Radio and I bought it immediately. I had it on repeat for days because it was such a sad, beautiful song.

But now, it is played on literally every modern station about every three songs. I've gotten quite sick of it.

It's a great song, and I'm so glad that Sam is popular because he totally deserves it (that man can SING!), but his #1 song shouldn't be played so much. I'm sure the other songs on his album are just as amazing.

That's just one form of overplaying. The stations overplay good songs, which is okay for a little while. But a lot of times, they overplay TERRIBLE SONGS THAT MAKE ME WANT TO GO DEAF.

A prime example: Talk Dirty by Jason Derulo.

Holy. Freaking. Shiitake. Mushrooms. (You get a cookie if you understand that reference)

That song was horrible and yet it was played so incredibly often! It's not only terrible in terms of moral, it's just plain bad. I will not argue that Jason Derulo can sing, but can he sing about things other than lipstick stains on his passport?

Also, Problem by Ariana Grande feat. Iggy Azalea. This song is not that great.

I think Ariana Grande is a wonderful singer and a beautiful person, but honestly, the song is just very repetitive with a semi-catchy beat that only gets stuck in your head and makes you want to jump out a window.

Now, I will admit that when I get a new song I really like, I do listen to it on repeat about 2000 times. (I listened to All I Want by Kodaline 196 times in three days.) But that's a little different. That's a personal favorite. My take on it is, play all top fifty songs evenly, and let people buy their favorite and listen to it every second of every day.

Then everyone can be happy.
