"Is that so?" he asks quietly, the air suddenly thick with tension.
"Yes, that is so," I reply in the same low tone.
We stare at each other for a while, and I can hear Sana gulp.
"When were you born?" he then asks, his eyes gliding over me.
I can't help but squirm under his gaze, but I keep on looking at him. "2000."
"Alright.", he nods. "You call me oppa then."
He quickly looks from Sana to me again, and it's like he's having a silent conversation with her. "I need to get back to practice. Wait for me, Rose, we'll have lunch together later and discuss your tasks and duties. See you."
He starts walking out of the room without even asking for my agreement. However, I stop him with my words. "But I haven't even accepted the job yet."
Jungkook turns around to raise an eyebrow at me. "You're aware all of my previous assistants quit, right? If you were desperate enough to apply for this job, it means you don't have many other options."
I bit my lip because I don't want to admit out loud to him that he's right, but considering that smug smirk appearing on his face right now as he watches me, I don't even have to. Jungkook knows he's right.
"See you later, Rose. Don't be late."
Speechless, I stare at the door this tornado of a person just closed behind them.
"Well...that went well," I say to no one in particular.
Sana sighs. "I apologize for his behavior, Rose. If you don't want the job, I perfectly understand."
"No," I immediately shoot back. "I want the job." The condescending, judgemental look in his eyes triggered something deep inside me. You think I can't do this, Jungkook? I will prove to you that I can.
I won't give up before I haven't even started.
The HR manager's eyes widen at my response. She clearly didn't expect that. "Really? Well, welcome to BigHit! Let me get the contract for you to sign, and I'll show you everything you'll have to do as Jean Jungkook's assistant."
Welcome to BigHit.
...
Two hours later, Sana describes to me how to get to Jungkook's training room.
"You'll most likely find him there.", she says. "Good luck with lunch today."
After she's spent the last two hours patiently explaining to me what my job position entails and how BigHit as a company works, I feel a little bit more confident. However, Jungkook will probably make that confidence sink to rock bottom once again.
Seems to be his special talent.
"Rose!" I look up, and standing in front of me is no other than Park Jimin, the man who got me into this mess in the first place. "May I help you?"
"Oppa!" Even though I'm kind of mad at him that he failed to mention what a brat Jungkook is during our previous conversation, I'm still relieved to see a familiar face here. "Is the Training room B-101 here? Were you training with Jungkook?"
"Yes, he should be out any minute," he glances back at the door he just exited and then back to me. "First meeting went well, I heard?"
"Yeah, about that." I scratch my neck. "How come Jungkook was surprised to find out I'm a foreigner?"
"You're not one to me, so it felt irrelevant to mention it to him," Jimin just shrugs. "Besides, it's a good sign he's not convinced with you yet."
