Chapter 9

Zainab

Some people don't know the importance of sleep and one of them is my annoying best friend Fatima. It's 9.45am in the morning Fati is yelling for me to wake up. I swear I don't know what I did to deserve this.

I usually wake up by five for morning prayer and then go back to sleep after I have observe my salat and I don't wake up till 12pm because I'm jobless and also because sleep is vital for me as a human being. Why can't they just understand the importance of sleep.

"Zee Mama wake up now. Wake wake. Get your lazy ass up. Come on. Emergency. Bee du bee du bee du! Up up up. Come on now wakey wakey. Pwease. Abeg na get up."

I groaned, stretch my body before opening my eyes to see the idiot.
"You." I groggily said.

"Tashi. (Get up)

"Who sent you to me this morning Fati Dan Allah wa ye aike ki. Ha'an tell them say you no see me abeg. Did you see me?" I removed the blankets from my body and lazily sit up trying to recall what I dreamed but it refused to come back.

"What have I ever done to you to deserve this disturbance. Tell me. Did you just wake up today and decide to come and disturb me."

"Yes" She smiled and sat beside on my bed. "I want to disturb you get up and get dressed."

"I'm not going anywhere."

"How did you know I want you go somewhere?"

I groaned again. I need sleep. I kick her continuously letting my frustrations out until she fell off the bed.

"Zee Mama!" I know she expected me to do something crazy and I did. "What is wrong with you."

"You." With that I got up and to the bathroom to take my bath.

"So I heard you went out with Yusuf." She said Immediately I came out of the bathroom. I glared at her and she smiled showing me her dimple something I don't have.

"You suck. You planned it didn't you?"

"Did I now?" She smiled mischievously. "Did it go well? I heard you met Ya Nusaiba was she nice to you?"

"Uhm yes." Apart from the fact that she looked as if she didn't like my taste of fashion she was okay.

"You are lucky he didn't take you to Meet Ya Samira. Take it from me she is a terrible person."

"Don't call someone terrible." I scolded and she smiled. I know Fati hates most of her family members because they make her feel like she doesn't belong with them. The thing is Fati biological father died when she was barely two years so her mother remarried after she turned six. Uncle Garba is a good man and treat her like his own child but her step siblings brand her as an outcast. They were much older than her and all of them married.

Growing up with them could get lonely but luckily for both of us she found a family In my home.

"Don't worry you'll meet her and realize that I'm right."

"She might have a change heart and be nice."

"You'll see. But I'll advise you not to take anything she spit from her mouth to heart." Fatima warned.

"I'll try. So why did you come to disturb me?"

"Yusuf is leaving today and Ahmad is being a good person and is taking him to the airport so I want us to see him off." She was her usual perky self.

I rolled my eyes and walked out of the room and she followed me out. I met my dad in the living room. He was sipping something from his favorite mug.
