Chapter 16

Zainab's POV

"There is a mark as unread option, so we can unread the unread messages we read" Maryam suggested sounding nonchalant. How can she be so calm about the situation  while I'm in a mild panic mode.

"Mamie is not your button phone we are talking about. There's nothing like mark as unread in this Android phone."  I tell her

"So we are doomed!"

"We are."

My sister Maryam and I succeeded in getting my other sister Amina phone I got the number I was looking for but I didn't stop there I checked her messages and read the ones from her lover so why are we freaking out. Well, Amina had some unread messages and Maryam stupidly read them and now Amina would know that we tampered with her phone.

"Look at the bright side." She said which got my absolute attention praying she would say something useful. "We got more information then we planned, trust me when I say getting into trouble with Yaya Amina is worth it."

I read through some messages and discovered some really strange text from a particular number warning to stay away from Ismail Gambo. It didn't stop there this particular sender also wrote that Ismail is a married man with two wives what is really annoying is the fact that these are the messages Amina ignored and never read.

"Ismail Gambo will ruin your life, for your own good leave him before you fall victim." Maryam read out loud. Strange right?

"Who do you think sent these?" Maryam asked

"Are you seriously asking me that?  How I wan take know?" I replied with my own question. It's like replying question with  question is in our DNA. For example when I ask any of my siblings a question like 'will you want to eat rice?' they answer me with something like '. 'do you have rice to give me?' it's in the blood.

"What of that app you use to check unknown numbers profile?"

"What about the app?" I asked absently it was when I saw the blank  look on her face that I realize that I was supposed to use it to check the profile of the sender.

I brought out my phone and entered the app. I checked the number of the sender and discovered that It was from a female named Hindatu, no surname just Hindatu

"We should give Hindatu a call" I say but Maryam was not paying attention she looked distracted. "Mamie" I called to get her attention and I did.

"Wetin? (What) she asked.
"You are not listening, as my partner in crime you need to pay attention to me."

"Yes, yes yes, I was just wondering why a father will just sit down and decide to name his child hindatu. If I was her I would change my name. What is hindatu sef? Is she hindering people lives? People just don't know what to name their children." She complained like she was the one who is unfortunate to bare the name.

"Mamie, we need to return Amina's phone and hope our death won't be painful." I exaggerated.

"Yes yes yes and You can call Hindatu." She pronounced the name pretending to gag.

I dailed the number as Maryam left. If I wasn't so jobless my step mom won't have given me this senseless job. Amina would chop my head off if she finds out I did as much as touch her phone. Sometimes she acts like I've got some contagious disease and if she touch anything I touch she will contact it. Idiot!

Hindatu picked the call after the second ring.
"Hello?" A very soft feminine voice came through the phone.

"Good morning." I checked the wall clock and discovered that it was already twelve in the afternoon. "Uhm sorry good afternoon." I corrected myself.
