"Be slow to fall into friendship & love, but when you are in, continue firm and constant."
Someone should've told Tray that.

"Don't you fix your mouth to say shit else to me! Go upstairs, and ya tv, ya games, ya phone allat is mine for the next two weeks!" My mother yelled.
"But Ma I didn't even!" Juliet screamed back, only to be silenced by my mothers firm tone.
"Juliet say something again and watch me slap the piss out of you! Go upstairs!" Taking a sip of lemonade, I didn't even flinch when my Mom stormed outside and slammed the front door shut. I was used to it, I got the worst of it being her first child. By the time she had Damon, she became a simmered ballon compared to the raging bull I dealt with growing up. These kids had it easy, as far as I was concerned.
"Ma why Ju Ju crying?" Dana had been downstairs getting her hair done, so she had no idea what happened. Minding my business I took to feeding my Father slow spoon fills of cinnamon apple sauce. It was cold, and kept him cool. We had him in the shade anyway, so he could comfortably watch Dana's prom send off. I had no idea her fast ass had a boyfriend, but apparently my parents did.
Whatever, as long as she doesn't get pregnant.
I doubt she was a Virgin though. We were raised pretty firm, and compared to how Ju got away with shit? My mom might as well get ready to be a grandmother sooner rather than later with that girl.
Hell just get ready for something-anything with her.
She was truly a trip.
"She think she can talk and run her mouth at school like she crazy. This girl done ran her mouth to the teacher, and got caught cussing at lunch. Her ass was so loud the entire cafeteria could hear her, and during silent time at that! I don't know what happened, but the principal enforced silent lunches for the remainder of the school year. And her ass wanna go and be the poster child for bad ass!" Shaking her head she turned to take pictures of Dana with her date and everyone else.
"Alright girl, I gotta get back to Kaiser. Have a good night, bye guys!" Hugging Nique, I watched her pull off just as my brother pulled up.
"There go Damon." I pointed out, munching on a bag of lays as he pulled up in the mustang my Mom rented them for tonight.
Cliche
"Y'all be safe! Oh Damon, Airi, take a few with her." Rolling my eyes, I brushed my hands and clothes off going to stand by her. Doing a few fake smiles and dramatic poses, I stepped back into the shade with my Daddy as they left. I hope that damn boy don't wreck that rental, that bitch was expensive just to rent and I was not about to be enjoying helping pay that hefty number off if something happened to it.
"She not coming home?" Grabbing the water hose, she shook her head no as she watered the lawn.
"Nah. I decided to let her live and get a hotel with him and her friends. After everything with you, I realized that a lot of things will happen under my nose and it's better I know about it and control the situation. That way you all can feel safer coming to me with things." Sighing, she turned the hose off and went inside to order Juliet around some more. It was bemusing to me hearing that girl scream and argue with my Mom. My mom definitely had patience of steal now.
But.
That would only last so long. Not a second later Damon had to shut the door, because my Mom was ripping into her ass bad with that belt. Smiling and waving to my neighbors as they walked by, I turned my attention to the house next door as a U-Haul truck pulled up.
"Daddy they got people moving in already?" Opening his eyes, he followed my gaze and nodded.
"Yeah. Guess they had another daughter no body knew about, and she inherited everything I guess. Now her family's moving in, from Virginia." Taking a swig of water, he fanned himself as he laid his head back eyes closed. Turning away from him as the family stepped out, I watched them as they went inside. A woman I assumed was her daughter approached the door, followed by two girls about Ju's age and three sons. Two of them looked like they were seniors in high school, and the last brother looked like he was definitely out of high school.
"Damn he fine." Burying my mouth against my hand when my Father chuckled, I felt myself grow hot with embarrassment. Thank god no one heard that besides him. I had yet to see a Father, but I turned my attention back to my own and helped him back inside our cool home.
I'm sure I'd heard more about our new neighbors later. ••• "Wait?! You're really for real?" I asked breathlessly. After sending Dana off to prom, I decided to go with Tray to take Cj to visit Carmen. The floor was pretty empty, and a nurse agreed to allow Carmen to bring Cj on the floor for a little while so she could properly spend time with him. When we arrived she was talking to her lawyer Lori. After she left Carmen filled us in on everything.
"Yes Airi, now don't ask me again! Look what he's done to us? To those other families. I'm going to fight this dick." Rubbing at the back of my neck nervously, I shared a look with Tray that Carmen didn't miss. Corey was sleep with the lite help of medications. He apparently had a hard day of physical therapy and was getting some much needed rest.
"That's big is all. I mean those people have big money Carmen. Just be careful, people like that get desperate to protect there image and cover things up. I mean he's the Governor's son, they have power over police and many people around the city. You just never know." Shrugging, she continued to interact with Cj like I never said anything. It agitated me to no end, but I took a breath and let it go. It wasn't my fight, it wasn't my choice or my situation. My boyfriend and I were living a fairly normal life, INFACT our anniversary was coming up.
So.
I'd focus all my energy on that.
After another two hours, the nurse came to let us know her shift was over and we had to leave before the nurse replacing her came on the floor. We were ready to go anyway, and eagerly started packing up and getting ready.
"I hope they can accommodate us to keep him on the normal floor." Carmen mumbled aloud, kissing Cj's fingers. I personally didn't think the baby should be here in the hospital exposed to all these germs, but he was really young and needed his Mother.
Plus. Who am I to interject on what she feels or thinks is best for her child? She carried him not me.
"Alright well keep us updated alright?" Kissing her cheek, I passed Cj's carrier to Tray as he locked it in on his stroller. Carmen walked us to the doors, drowning the baby in kisses before she let us go finally. When we hit the elevator, Tray spoke his mind.
"This shit is just so greasy bro. They're going to do everything they can to destroy Carmen and Corey. Not to mention those other families, they can't even really build a case unless they come forward and testify." Shaking my head, I agreed
"I don't think she realizes it. But a lot of those family are less fortunate than us, and they're just going to settle for big payouts at the end of the day. As long as they can get what they need for there family members, or to probably bury them they'll take it. That's how people with big money get off." Settling myself into the passenger seat, I closed my eyes as he pulled off.
"That's not our concern right now. But what is, is our anniversary." Grinning at that, I peeked at him from under my lashes as he kissed my hand.
"Yeah...it's our first year as a couple. What do you have in store?" Smirking, he squeezed my hand.
"Let's just say we'll be anywhere but Texas, and I have big things in store for us." Feeling my face grow hot at his expression, I looked everywhere but him as I nodded. With all of this going on around us, I sometimes forget that I'm really dating the man I drooled after for so many years of our life as just friends.
Now I finally had him, and he was all mine. •••
