Side note: I hope your enjoying the start of the actual book. Yes 'The fire in their eyes' was just the starter for this book. So if you weren't completely satisfied with the last book don't worry.
Angeline
The orphanage was a miserable place. Angeline was never a very nice child so no one ever wanted to adopt her. Heck no one even wanted to share a room with her. She would mainly just spend her days staring out the window. She used to see this one limousine that would drive pass every day. She grew in a relatively poor part of East Kalos so it was very rare to see cars. One day the limousine parked outside the orphanage. The chauffeur stepped out and opened the back door. A finely dressed man and women stepped out. The women wore too much jewellery that it worn down her neck. The man wore a fine suit and a expensive watch. After a what Angeline could only assume was their son. He held himself very high. With his nose high in the air. He too wore a suit. They entered the orphanage. They had gone into the mangers office. She put her ear to the door. Eavesdropping was nothing new to her. "Your late on your taxes la-- -f y-u do--- pay up w- ---l -- fo-c-d -- evict you" The man talked in a very posh accent it was hard to work out he was saying.
"But Duke you surely have to understand that these girls need lots of support" The manager was easy to make out.
"I d-n't -a-e j--t -e- t-e m-n-y or suf-er th- consequences"
The boy opened the door. Angeline fell to the ground. "Father I found another peasant"
"Oh gracious do something" The women screamed clinging to her husband.
Angeline stood up. "What did you just call me?" She stood on his foot. The boy scowled at her "You just made the biggest mistake of you life commener" He ran to his father. That day Angeline swore her vengeance against stuck up prats like that boy and yet she ended up working for not one not two but three. After she turned eighteen she was offered a job at the palace. Then when Hannah and Gary came she was assigned to personally attend to Gary. That was the bane of her entire life.
Sebastian
Sebastian ran up to his room. He cried on his pillow. Someone knocked on the door. "Go the fuck away!" He screamed. He heard footsteps. They got quieter. Whoever was there was gone. The pillow formed a wet patch of his tears. He hated being a teenager. The rain poured in the window. The south of Kalos was a very rich area but had a lot of moisture in the air. So tropical storms were more common than not. Sebastian hated his father. He hammered taking over his title down to Sebastian's bones. Sebastian had no intention of becoming a Baron. He denounced his birth rights. The two looked nothing alike and the interests they shared was scare. His mother was no better. A damn gold digger always mooching whatever she could out of his father. Not that he cared. His father's life savings could burn in the distortion world and Hell.
His younger sisters didn't like Sebastian very much. They were twins and only talked about how handsome the Duke of Unova or the bishop of wherever. He paid little attention to them and they returned the favour. Both of them were two years younger than him. They could take over his father's title for all he cared.
That was the night. The night Sebastian packed up. He took some spare clothes and some food and that was all. His Manectric walked beside him. Once passed the gate he stared back at the house. It was large and surrounded by tropical trees. He had no place here. The rain battered against him. There was no turning back.
Sebastian knocked entered the office it was his first day at being an actual servant. (The palace runs a scheme that takes in orphans and raises them as servants so when they're 17-18 they have a job instead of going out into the streets. Sebastian and Edward were part of it. This is what Edward partly refers to when he says I swore my life). Sycamore swiveled on the chair. "Sorry to call you in here on your first day Sebastian" Sycamore started.
"It's fine your majesty" Sebastian bowed. The king had only been in power for a few weeks.
"I just wanted to congratulate you"
Sebastian tilted his head in confusion. "I'm sorry my Lord I don't fully grasp the situation"
"You have been promoted Sebastian. To my head butler"
Edward
The cold street was inhospitable. Edward shifted so he wasn't sitting in a puddle of gutter water. Mum still haden't returned. She was a hour late. Edward's toes went numb. He kicked a beer bottle to try stop pins and needles. He looked to his left a green garbage disposal it reeked but served as a half decent wind shield. His right his little sister Jane. Her knees covered her nose. She was only nine. He was ten. The ally was long and half was now pitch black. The sun was on the very horizon. Letting off a very small amount of light. Edward's body tensed. If the sun went down they would be alone in the ally without there mother. "Big brother?"Jane whispered.
"Yeah Jane?" Edward whispered back.
"When will mum come back?"
Edward fell silent. "Soon" He lied. He had to give her false hope. No way would he let her worry in the night. Some creepy paedophile would score big with a nine year old girl. No one would touch her as long as he was alive.
Edward was fully aware of his mother's work she was a pole dancer. She would never become a prostitute in case she got aids and would die on her two young children. Regardless it was dangerous work especially if they couldn't find a doorway to sleep in that night. "Edward? Jane?" He recognised the voice it was his mother's. "Mum?" Jane she shouted. She got up and hugged her mum. Edward smiled in relief. He hugged his mum too. The street life was tough but they got by.
Barely.
Regardless they were alive. They lived in Lumiose city there were many ally's and doorways for the taking as long as someone haden't got there first. He loved his mum. She could have abandoned them long ago but no she kept then close and alive. She sacrificed her dignity every single day for them. They all had one thing in common. They're blonde hair and golden eyes a trait carried specifically from there mother. Jane was too young to remember her father. However it painted a clear picture in Edward's. His father was a self righteous prick that raped his mother twice on different occasions then left. With no child support. Edward swore that if he ever ran into father again he wouldn't let him lay a finger on his mother.
A week later his mum didn't come back after the sun had gone down. Jane started to panic. Edward attempted to calm her. Within three hours of wandering he found his mother's dead body outside her work. She had a bullet would in her head. Jane burst into tears. Edward fell to the floor. Her beautiful golden eyes were now dull and lifeless. Edward closed her eyes. He was never one to believe in a God. He couldn't after all he had been through. But if there was one he prayed to it now. For his mother's peace. Her blonde hair was stained with blood from her wound. Edward stroked it. They stayed there for an hour with the two of them crying their eyes out.
Jane disappeared a month after that. Edward was truly alone at this point. He had tried to take his life a couple of times. But had failed. He sat on the side of the street the rain refused to stop. His blonde hair was soaked. The city was always full of hustle and bustle. Even on rainy days. But lots of people doesn't necessarily mean giving people. Edward pulled the hood further down his face. The rain stopped. He looked up. A sweet looking old lady was sheltering with her umbrella. "Are you ok son? Do you need a place to stay?" Her voice was warm it reminded him of his mother's. Edward nodded.
"This will be your room Edward. There's two other little boys like you staying here too" The woman smiled. "So are we all going to become butler's?"
"If you want to you could become a cook or a cleaner. But we'll always feed you. Regardless of what you choose we'll make sure we raise you into a young gentleman"
