There's a quote that says, "Inhale the future, exhale the past."
But what if you choke on air?
That's exactly what Sooyeon's life has been like. After losing the most important people of her life, Sooyeon made a deal with herself that no matter wh...
I sighed as I got up and grabbed my little notebook and pencil and went outside the kitchen to go serve table 18.
Getting back to the kitchen with the order, I tucked the little white slip on the soft board and went back to my comfy seat in the corner of the kitchen.
I sat there waiting for the dishes to cook while fidgeting with my nails.
"Heyo."
I looked up to see Hyejin standing in front of me. She had a small white chef hat on.
"What are you wearing that for?" I said pointing to the hat.
"It's cute, isn't it?" She said.
"Mhmm." I got back to scraping the last bit of nail paint that was still on my pinky finger.
"Go home. I'll take it from here." Hyejin said.
"You sure?"
"Oh yeah. I'm in the mood to work today." She smiled and left the kitchen before I could reply.
I met Hyejin for the first time when I came to work here. She'd also joined recently then. We became good friends and we hung out a lot. I didn't have any other 'friend'. She's the only one.
I got up and went to change into my casuals before getting out of the restaurant.
I'd been working here for nearly a year now. I'd started when I'd just graduated. It was a nice and cozy place and they offered a good pay too.
After graduating, at the age of 20 I'm currently on a hiatus before I start looking for jobs.
I walked back home. It took me twenty minutes to get back.
I opened the door only to see the house in a mess that I left it in, early in the morning. I hurried and cleaned all the mess from my apartment.
Well, this isn't my apartment. It's my uncle's. But he doesn't live here anymore.
After my parents passed away I moved in with uncle Jongyun in this apartment.
But one night, uncle came home late and I suspected that he was drunk. He went straight to his bedroom grabbed his suitcase, dumped his stuff in and headed out of the house.
I called after him a million times, but it was as if he couldn't hear me. The next morning I woke up and saw a letter tugged in my wardrobe.
It was from uncle Jongyun saying that he'd had to leave Seoul for some business related work and he wasn't sure about his return.
That night was the last time I saw him. He never came back for two years. He'd call me occasionally asking about my health and when I ask about him he keeps saying the same thing.
"Ah, don't worry about me. I'm good. I'm not very certain as to when I'll be back but you stay safe."
And with that he hangs up the call.
I'm suddenly nostalgic. I do miss him a lot. It was fun having someone around all the time.
After ordering a pizza, I walked to the living room and turned the TV on. I put the news channel. I was busy texting Hyejin and reminding her that we had gym tomorrow.
As I'm not very healthy physically and have lots of time to utilise, I decided to join the gym. It's not really my type but Hyejin was successful in convincing me.
As I was texting Hyejin, I heard the reporter on the TV say something that made me look up to the TV screen.
She said a name.
"Park Hyunseok."
I instantly dumped my phone on the couch and looked at the TV with terrified eyes.
Park Hyunseok? Isn't he d-dead?
I can't think. I'm nervous. I'm hyperventilating. How is he alive? He's not! Is he?
I listened to the news and they say that Hyunseok was reported to be dead four years ago but recently it has been reported that he was seen in the US.
Park Hyunseok means only one thing.
Trouble. Lots of trouble.

Here's a little hint to what Hyunseok looks like.
