Summer finally came for the students. The uncertainty of next year giving them something to look forward too and there was, of course, the prospect of coming home and sitting on their asses for two months. Then there was Sirius, probably one of the only students who dreaded the end of the school year and coming home to their family.
Sirius had been sent to his room without dinner for the second day in a row. His mother and him had gotten into another argument that ended with her sending a curse his way and her shrill voice demanding Kreacher to lock the young Black in his room until morning.
The grey-eyed teen flopped down on his bed and inhaled. He hated this damn house, hated this damn family- he sat up and looked at himself in his dresser's mirror- he hated the person he had made himself into.
Evelyn had told him she didn't see a difference between him and his family. He had remembered his stomach souring when the words left her mouth.
Self-reflection wasn't exactly something he had ever really thought about- or practiced, but maybe it was time?
His eyes shifted to his closet and his school trunk, he had to get out of here.

Sirius would be coming over to Potter Manor in two weeks, plenty of time to think. James had his ego beaten to a pulp a few weeks ago and the idea of 'growing up' was also now occupying his mind.
Grow up. He had tried to hex her, he had tried to hurt her- out of anger. Just thinking about it made him sick. It took guts to do what she did. She had bloody unarmed him without so much as a whisper.
Evelyn, the girl who was always nice to him, smiled at him when they passed each other in the halls, the girl who introduced him to Muggle television, the girl whose mother would send him treats.....she had done nothing but be kind to him, and how did he repay her? By turning his wand on her.
Evans was right, he wasn't any better than Snape, Evelyn too, he wasn't a Gryffindor. James felt disgusting in his own skin, how could he ever face her again?
And suddenly the answer entered his thick skull, grow up.

Evelyn pulled her curls up with a blue ribbon and grabbed her embroidered sundress out her closet, then made her way into Nicole's room, " Hey Nic, I'm gonna steal your lip gloss," she chirped looking over at the bed where her friend was flipping through a magazine and eating chips.
Nicole raised a purple eyebrow, " Wha-, where's your?" she asked with a full mouth.
Evelyn smiled sweetly while grabbing the lip gloss, " I can't find it."
Nicole rolled her green eyes and swallowed, " Because that bloody room of yours is a damn wreck,"
Evelyn only shrugged and wandered over to the girl's closet, " All you have are sneakers, boots, or heels- and they're all either black or red, you have to give me something for me to work with," she sighed.
Nicole narrowed her eyes, " If you've forgotten Ev this is my room, where are you going anyway?"
Evelyn laughed and flopped down beside Nicole, taking a chip- well tried too before Nicole snatched the bag out of the brunette's reach. Evelyn rolled her rust-colored eyes, " I'm going to the Apothecary, mom needs some potion supplies... And so do I,"
Nicole nodded approvingly, " Have you forgotten how you lost the chance to be a prefect because Sprout found out we were selling acne creams?"
" Exactly why we need to be more careful," she quipped, laying down.
