Chapter 65: November 1st

 Sirius couldn't believe it, smoke and bodies were everywhere. The pure image of it was insane," I-I did kill them didn't I ?!" he laughed maniacally. He was so out of it he didn't even realize the auroras clamping cuffs on him, so far gone he didn't remember the promise he made,' I'll be back.'

And those would be the words that would echo throughout his head for the next 12 years.

Aurors surrounded the Black household with stealth and caution, armed with their wands and other weapons," This is auror Hicks! Open up now or we will be forced to open it with force!" he bellowed while banging on the door. When no one answered he blew the door off its hinges.

Hicks walked in and the others followed, wands at the ready. They looked around the cottage and almost dropped their wands in surprise.

They all knew who this was- It was the beautiful and talented Evelyn Black, wife to the handsome and wealthy Sirius Black.

Evelyn's eyes were bloodshot and staring out the window in front of her, she seemed to be muttering something. Her curls were frizzy and wild, her already red eyes were dull and lifeless.

" Mrs. Black?" Auror Hicks asked. Evelyn didn't respond, she just kept rocking back in forth in the white rocking chair and kept muttering. Hicks looked out the window then back to Evelyn.

Hicks took a step forward," Mrs. Black?" he tried again, she continued staring and rocking.

" He'll come back, he'll come back, he'll come back..." she chanted quietly to herself.

Hicks put his wand down and walked over the woman," Mrs. Black, I'm Auror Hicks and we need to ask you a few questions." She didn't respond. Hicks noticed she was holding something to her chest- a stuffed wolf.

Hicks frowned. " I think she's in shock.....Reynolds, draw the curtains," he said. Reynolds did as he was told and Evelyn quit rocking, but her stare didn't waver.

" Mrs. Black-" he was interrupted by Evelyn," He'll be back soon, He'll be home soon," she said," He'll come home, mom will drop Ellie off, Sirius will play with her while I start cooking, Sirius will try and sneak her sweets before she's even had her dinner yet, We'll all sit down and eat, He'll do the dishes while I get Ellie to sleep, after I lay her down we'll go to our bedroom, he'll kiss me-say he loves me and we'll go to bed..." she said in a monotone voice, clutching the wolf to her breast.

The auroras looked at the woman with pity," He'll be back soon." she whispered pitifully.

Auror Hicks sighed," Mrs. Black...your husband has been arrested." he said calmly. Evelyn looked over at him," Why? Were him and James drinking again?" she asked airily.

Reynolds cleared his throat," Uh ma'am...Mr. Potter died yesterday." he said awkwardly.

" He did didn't he..." she trailed off, still holding the wolf.

Hicks sighed," Mrs. Black.....Sirius isn't coming home, no one is." he stated firmly.

Evelyn narrowed her eyes at him," Yes he is." she said.

He shook his head," No Mrs. Black, your husband has been arrested for the murder of Lily and James Potter, and you're wanted for questioning- he is not coming home, and if we have to we'll remove you from the premises by force."

Evelyn stood up and held her ground, still clutching the stuffed wolf," You're lying!" she screamed," James gave Sirius a home, a family, and Sirius would never do that! SIRIUS LOVES JAMES LIKE A BROTHER! SIRIUS IS COMING HOME!" she shook her head frantically," YOU CANNOT FAKE LOVE LIKE THAT! IT WAS THE RAT!"

The auroras took a step back, she was going into hysterics. She seemed deranged, insane. " I AM NOT LEAVING," She glanced at the window," My family will be here soon."

Hicks pulled out his wand and motioned for everyone to do the same, Evelyn took out hers and reflected the stunner," He is coming home! Sirius would never break a promise!" She screamed, sending a stunner of her own.

From that point on, it was a full-blown battle, with Evelyn winning. It was as if it were a dance to her, her wand moved as if she were conducting an orchestra, she moved with grace, twirling and swaying to the side. And Hicks had a feeling she was holding back.

" DAMN IT WE NEED BACK UP!" Reynolds yelled. Hicks scowled," We can handle-"

" Andrews, Gilbert, Sanders, and Gates are stunned!" Williams yelled rolling under a coffee table. Reynolds looked at Hicks who groaned and pulled out his two-way mirror.

The auror office was in complete discord. With Sirius Black arrested, Peter Pettigrew's death, The Potter's death, the disappearance of Voldemort, everyone was doing something.

Erin Collins stood up on her desk and shouted," HICKS NEEDS BACK UP AT THE BLACK HOUSEHOLD!"

Twenty auroras apparated to the Black's house. After another half-hour, they managed to stun Evelyn and retrieve her wand. She looked like a broken doll, her eyes were closed and her hair was played across the floor.

Reynolds went over to the young woman, and picked her up bridal style, he saw she still had the stuffed wolf. She really was beautiful, but she was powerful- and dangerous, no wonder Black married her.

They apparated to the ministry's lobby where reporters began snapping pictures. Reynolds hugged the small woman to his chest, trying to shield her from the media's eyes.

They arrived at the holding cell, and Reynolds carefully placed her on the bed. He locked the cell and began wondering, what happens now?
