When was the last time she had saw Nicole? A few days ago, yes, a few days ago. Her and Marlene had came over for dinner. As Lindsey thought about the memory it became more and more vivid, that was the last time she saw her girl.

" I'm awfully sorry, Mrs. Truelove," said a grave Fabian Prewett.

Lindsey looked over to the dining room and to the chair Nicole had sat, " No, she was just here, how-,"

Lindsey blinked at the chair and when she opened her eyes she saw a smiling Nicole, and then she was gone.

Lindsey staggered back into Samson's chest, " She was just here," she whispered.

Samson opened his mouth and then closed it, " Thank you for telling us," was all he said. Fabian took that as his cue to leave. He bid the couple good bye and apparated away.

" Sam our girl, she- she-," a sob escaped Lindsey's throat as she buried her head into Samson's chest, " Sh-she's gone!"

Samson tightened his grip on Lindsey and ran a hand over her perfect hair, " I know, love," he murmured, a lone tear falling from his eye, " I know,"

Lindsey wailed, " My baby's gone, Samson, my beautiful Nicole, my beautiful beautiful Nicole," she whimpered grabbing fistfuls of his button down, " Our baby's gone,"

That broken girl in need of a mother, that little girl with bright green eyes and beautiful blonde hair, that child who longed for a family, " Oh God!" she sobbed, collapsing into Samson.

Edwin shoveled soiled hay out of the horses stalls with a grunt, this was so fucking tedious, but he had to find a way to make some cash before moving . He heard a car pull up and he frowned, was that Earl? He wasn't supposed to come by until around four.

He layed the pitchfork down and made his way outside and too the front porch here he saw Jemison talking to Gran. His cousin had a pained expression, and with each word a tear escaped his eyes until he flew into their grandmother's arms as Sabina rubbed his back.

Edwin's walk turned into a run, what had happened?

" Hey, is everything okay?" he asked looking between Gerald, Lisa, and Jemison. His grandfather opened his mouth but then closed it, " Well goddamn it," was all he said before pulling out a cigarette and lighting it with his wand.

" It's Nicole, " Sabina said softly, " She, Evelyn, and Marlene were attacked by deatheaters... Marlene and Nicole were killed," Her brown eyes went to her feet and Edwin saw her tears land on the leather.

His heart dropped to his stomach, " Nic?" he asked, " She's really gone?"

A cry left Jemison's throat, only making Lisa hold him tighter, whispering reassurances into his ear, " I know baby,"

He couldn't believe it, Nicole. A lump formed in his throat and he lent against the porch, she had been murdered.

His dark eyes went to the tree where him, Evelyn, and Nicole caught fireflies the summer before fourth year, it was almost like he could hear them laughing. In such a short amount of time she had become family, but now she was gone.

Numb.

Numb when she stepped into that black dress, numb when she felt Sirius guide her to the car, numb when she walked to the entrance of the church in Godric's Hollow, numb when she sat down on that front pew beside her mother and father, but when those caskets made their way down the aisle she broke.

She leaned on Sirius for support and he held her as she cried into his shoulder. This couldn't be happening, it was impossible.
